Posted for the benefit of anyone interest in the Flymars A Hunting Slingshot Rifle.

I made up a band set 50 to 20mm tapper, double bands. 1mm Sheshou guru and 0.65mm Therband gold and it shot a 93.4m/s (306.43fps) (19fpe) 19 foot pounds. This is a much better result.

So here are the results so far.

1) Sheshou guru 1mm 50 to 20mm tapper. 5:2 ratio

  • 8mm steel 50/20mm tapper (113.2m/s) (371fps) 2.09 grams (32.27 grains)
  • 8mm lead 50/20mm tapper (106.8m/s) (350fps) 3.04 grams (46.92 grains)
  • 10mm lead 50/20mm tapper (74m/s) (242fps) 5.94 grams (91.63 grains)

2) Sheshou guru 1mm 50 to 12mm tapper. 4.2:1 ratio

  • 8mm steel 50/12mm tapper (110.0m/s) (360fps) 2.09 grams (32.27 grains)
  • 8mm lead 50/12mm tapper (101.3m/s) (331fps) 3.04 grams (46.92 grains)
  • I didn't bother with the 10mm lead I guessed it would be under 70/ms

3) Sheshou guru 1mm + 0.65 Theraband gold 50 to 20mm tapper. 5:2 ratio (1.65mm of latex) arround 50lb's of draw force, see video below.

  • 8mm steel 50/20mm tapper (104.0m/s) (342fps) 2.09 grams (32.27 grains)
  • 8mm lead 50/20mm tapper (100.5m/s) (329fps) 3.04 grams (46.92 grains)
  • 10mm lead 50/20mm tapper (93.4m/s) (306fps) 5.94 grams (91.63 grains)

So it seems the way to increase the effectiveness of the rifle is to go up in rubber and caliber not to try to get speed with a small projectile.

The inspiration for this was Jeorg Sprave's Sling-X-Bow with triple theraband gold bands (0.65x3=1.95mm). I am very happy about that. It looks like I might have nearly found the optimum performance for the Flymars A Hunting Slingshot Rifle.

A GZK MAD6 pouch die was used with GZK QINGYAO POUCH MATERIAL 1.8MM SCALY SUPER FIBER LEATHER, with Double sided laminated pouches. Thin strips of theraband gold used for tying in with wrap and tuck tying in method.

Sorry I don't have a means to Video record at the moment. I don't want to waste your time with lies, I post for my benefit also in case I lose my records in the future.

Any observations and comments of a constructive manner are very welcome.

Salutations to all at slingshotforum.com. :D

Hey Paul, just joined the forum today and really glad I found your post! I have the same rifle and the same challenge. (trying to get the most speed/power out of it) so your posts are a real help. I hope you don't mind me asking you some questions from time to time since I'm a relative newbie to sling shoting as a whole. MY issue is I have a lot of ***** that rip up my lawn every night in the summer. I have about 5,000 sq feet of lawn that I'd like to convert into a mini golf course for the kids. Obviously the ***** have a different plan so I'd like to "dissuade" them from using my yard as their playground.

Don't want to kill them ... just hurt them enough to make them think twice about coming. For that reason I've been using 8mm clay balls which have some zing at 20 yards but I'd like some more wallop for up to 40 yards or so. :)

There where lots of things to get this working perfectly. A Shim under the weaver rail, laminated pouches, wax infused graphite on the pouches, cuffed constrictor knots, 100% cotton builders chalk line for the band tie in."
Thank you so much for your quick response Paul ... believe me after reading a little on sling shotting I'll need all the help I can get! lol! Can you point me to the details of the above mods you've mentioned? They say that "imitation is the greatest form of flattery" so I'd like tp flatter the heck outta you! lol! Need to get my rifle up to speed (no pun intended) as fast as possible. BTW, that's the same scope that I was just about to order! (great minds think alike I suppose)

Hey Paul, a few more questions. :)

1. You've been using this rifle for about a year you said ... since you use flat bands, what's your experience been as to where they typically break? At/near the fork end? At/near the pouch end? Midway?

2. I've noticed that any scope I've used on my rifle points veeeeeeeery slightly to the right? Even when I swap out rings ... so I'm wondering of the stock rail is not true? Have you found this as well with yours?

3. Is this the fork you ungraded to?

4. Whenever I'm shooting from a standing position, I'm on target but if I sit and shoot (same target, exact same distance) my shot ends up about 8 inches high. This happens consistently. Do you know why this might be?

Thanks Paul!

Greg.

Hey Paul, never heard back from you ... did I go over my quota of questions?
