400 fps from a .45 cal lead ball?

WIth the weather improving and evenings getting longer I am thinking about slingshots again

I hope to do some more experimentation this year in the quest for more speed and energy.

Anyway, one target is to get a .45 cal lead ball (138 grains) moving at 400 fps. My current record is 325 fps. That was using heated gold theraband and a large fork extension. I think there is some potential for improvement by using thinner bands, more extreme tapering and some other optimisation.

What do you think? I know that several people here are in the 400+ fps club but I think projectiles used were much lighter than .45 cal lead.

Do you have any energy or speed goals for this year?

I have mislaid my rotary cutter and don't have any black Theraband at the moment so the 400 fps attempt will have to wait. In the meantime I've done some work with the "Heavy Stuff" and have actually beaten my previous best KE.

Heated Silver Thera tube
30 inch fork extension (wrist brace essential)
1700 grain lead ball
158.9 fps
95 ft/lbs
129 joules

I also have a high speed camera now. Bottles, fruit, cans, coconuts - watch out!
