This weekend's slingshot is an Ergo Shooter, made from a massive 2" x 2" amaranth block. That wood is hard! It took many hours to bring it into shape, and the polishing took even longer. It is incredibly dense. And red!

I used a flat steel bar (6mm) as the fork, to allow a low fork even though it is not a "W".

Used the clamp-on method for a change, got a bit sick of the messy look of rubber band attachments.

The bright red color does not come out very well in the photos, sorry. The dense, uncoated wood feels great in the hand!

I put on seven layers of Thera Black per side, the equivalent of Hunter bands. It shoots great.

I like it very much Joerg. If you had used carrage bolts and nuts, then everything woult be smooth for the bands to hit on. I might make a simular one for myself. -- Tex

Thera Black is faster than Thera Gold!

Also I wanted to test the attachment. The seven layer band set usually slips out of a rubber band attachment after a while, but the clamp on method is rock solid.

Bill, I rounded everything well, so I do not see a big danger for the bands. But I will use better screws and nuts, just didn't have any in my shop.

Gary, I checked wikipedia, the wood is also known as "Purpleheart". Wiki says it is very hard and sharp tools are needed... very true.

AH, Purpleheart. Never worked it but it is hard,doing a 1860 on the Janka scale of wood hardness. Nice color too! Sort of a Bubinga thing going on! Flatband
