So he says "Ouch"! But seriously folks...

So I've been very happy with my straight cut bands, as discussed in my 3/8 steel shooing thread. Settled on 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" bands. Measuring them to then cut isn't a big deal, but as my eyesight gets worse, I run the risk of slight variations. Probably not enough to have any measurable effect on my shooting, but none of us really need an excuse to play with things, do we? So I ran over to Home Depot and picked up a piece of 1/2" and 3/4" flat aluminum bar stock. Figured I could get my desired widths and have a straight edge all at once. Didn't have 5/8" but they are cheap and readily available on ebay.

Nice thinking with the bar stock

Thanks! It just kind of popped into my head last night. Plan is to take whichever one I'm not using to make the cut and place it on top of the cutting mat, then line the edges up and clamp that onto the edge of my workbench. Then just butt the elastic against that edge, place the template bar on top and butted up also. That should make for a very fast, repeatable and solid way to make the cuts.

That is really smart. I did something similar by having a sheet of lexan cut down the the widths that I needed, now I have a set of guides. :) However I think I will pick up some of that aluminum, it has to be more durable.

I do a lot of straight cut bands and manage with a steel ruler and sometimes a guillotine cutter.

I rode the bus to work for years. I would see this blind guy walking on the other side of the street every day. As he passed the fish monger he would tip his hat. I got to wondering WTF? So, one day I said," I gotta know!" I took up a place out of the way where he tipped his hat and waited for the blind guy to go by. He comes down the the street and as he passes the shop, he tips his hat and says,"Good Morning Ladies!".
