I came across a very nice piece of spalted maple from my neck of the woods. I think it was what woodworkers in my area call "Brown Maple" or Acer Rubrum. Anyway, it is pretty much a natural tie dyed piece of wood due to whatever causes spalting in wood-bugs, fungi, or otherwise. I like it!!

Thanks all. I took a little different approach to finishing on that particular frame. The maple really needed something to "pull" out the figure, so I went with a custom oil/wax blend I make in house. This allows the user to feel the wood and allows the wood to continue to develop that rich patina we all love. It will continue to develop character and sheen with handling and use.
I like this one very much!
