Head out to my spot and arrive around 12ish. The wind is almost dead, finally !

Pull out one of my luck rings that I have been working on.

I have about 8ea 7mm steel in one pocket and about 20ea 5/16" steel in the other. I'm using single Kent #303's on this LR.

I walk out and see a Hosp about 25 yards out, I aim and the 7mm ball just barely over the top of his head. I then walk into the abandon house get close to a broken window and wait, sure enough another Hosps lands, this one is about 18 yards out, I pull back making sure of my anchor point and the line of the tubes to the target and release ... thwack .... a solid hit and down he goes. The small ball ammo really flies super fast, it got to my target much faster than expected, it was there pretty much now !

I leave the house and walk around a big tree that is on the side, I look up because of all the gawking .. and there is a big mama Raven taking care of her babies, of course
I leave her alone.

The Luck Ring is such a nice thin slingshot, a real pleasure to take in the field and with a tube set for a particular job, it can do just about anything. I have not used a tapered plug for the use of flats, but this sling will certainly do that. The Luck Ring is just a very simple Chinese style tube slingshot ... no fancy nothing, although it does look nice !

As stated before I have no idea why this sling is not on the DanKung web site or someone else's. This is one of the simplest yet functional slings I own !

There are all kinds of fancy schmancy slings, with all kinds of fancy attachments and I could go on and on. Lets get to the basics of what a slingshot is .. look at the old Whamo, the other slings from to past, as I remember Mr Rufus Hussy and Mr Blue Skeen shot pretty well :)

There was an old saying in archery where every week guys would come in with new equipment thinking that was was the secret, we all used to say they were trying to machine their way to a higher score.....it never worked !!! The only thing that really works is perfect practice ..... over and over and over again !

Anyway.........

I get back to my car and just sit and wait for a while. As I'm sitting in the Jeep on bird watch, I'm starting to cook --- It's is getting real hot out here so I decide to leave !

But like Arnold said ... I'll be back !

Got to my spot at just before 6:30am and by 7:30 the wind was picking up and shooting was tough.

Took out a couple of my Luck Rings today, shot the one with single Kent 303's first and tested some 1/4 oz oval lead sinkers. The lead is just to heavy, it kept shooting to the left and low at 18 yards, those singles don't have the poop for ammo that weighs 117gr. I put a 5/16" steel ball in the pouch and it was lightning speed and spot on target. I use this set up for BB's also as they are an absolute tightrope. I'm expecting my 1/4" steel to arrive tomorrow, that ammo should be a screamer in this sling. I usually shoot my Chinese slings with this set up for BB's and 5/16" steel too. This set up and one like it using 2040 tubes normally is for BB's, and up to 5/16" steel. Both tubes can shoot 3/8" but not at the fast speed I really want. The sling set up with #303 is of course on the right.

I then pulled out another LR, this one has looped 3050's (above pic on left), and at ~18 yards flew with authority and I was smashing the target. It is not an absolute ball burner but close, it can bring it. This set up goes through my pie tin at 18 yards, and has the poop for hunting squirrel and rabbit for sure. Shooting at a measured 29.5 yards through a broken window (it flew gosh darn straight) and then smacking a knotty pine board at 34.5 yards from where I was shooting (5 yards behind the window) it left this indent ... it hits hard, ! Pics of 1/4oz lead in micro fiber pouch and board hit below that.

With this set up 5/16" steel is the minimum ball I shoot and I normally shoot 3/8" steel, and get great speed, good enough for Starlings and a bit bigger pest birds. This set up would be very good for 7/16" steel or ammo in that 70 -100 gr range.

Both of these slings performed as pretty much expected, the single #303 is perfect for 5/16" ball and under and the 3050 can bring home the bacon using the heavier ammo.

Later guys.

I'm hoping to shoot some 1/4" steel with looped 2040's tomorrow, looking forward to warp speed. If it is faster then the Kent 302 by a substantial margin I will order some, I'm would think looped 2040's will send 5/16" steel at a very fast clip and quite a bit faster than Kent 302's but we will see ! The 2040 is for 1/4" and some 5/16" also, I will probably shoot it in a looped configuration only for those two ammo sizes ;- )

The reason I say substantial is I can order it here at latex-tubing dot com and have a 50' roll in 4-5 days ... no 1 month+ wait from China, and it usually much more than a month !!!

I have been fine tuning my "Small Ball" set up big time. So far single 1745 has been shooting great so has single 3050 both with 1/4" steel. Looped 3050 is to much especially for 1/4" ball and so is looped 2040 as a matter of fact. Those set ups are put away for heavier ammo.

I decided to do away with the Kent 302 as it just doesn't cut it, it will be fine for a 7 year old shooting air soft ammo in a single configuration and i will make up some of that.

Tomorrow I get some flo green 1636 and I can hardly wait to try it. I will start out with it looped on a Luck Ring and a small pouch. ---- I'm hoping it is fairly easy to pull back and it is just a rocket ship for this small ammo. I do plan on shooting 5/16" ammo with this tube set also, nothing bigger.

I have been carrying 5 slings with me out in the boonies (three Luck Rings and two Mini Cheapo's) I think I may want to change one or two of the Luck Rings to a regular size Cheapo and/or F-16 with heavier tubes on it as I do have 3/8" steel and some 1/4oz lead oval sinkers, but we will see ? An F-16 with looped Kent #303's is pictured below: Decisions, decisions, decisions ..

They now all are sitting in a soft ice chest with a bottle of frozen water inside to keep the elastic cool in the 100deg heat (It also gives me an extra bottle of emergency water should I need it).

I really don't want to take a full arsenal of stuff every time I'm out, but I do want to be covered. A lot depends on the performance and the amount of pull of the 1636 tubes.

So far the single 1745's and the single 3050's are doing great. I'm thinking of two slings with single 1745 and one with single 3050 and one looped 1636. and leave one of the Luck Rings back home. I love those Luck Rings and I'm always thinking of the worst case scenario of something getting stolen in the car while I'm out hiking or ? The Mini Cheapos' and the F-16s' I can replace ... The Luck Rings I can't ..... but I love shooting them, they are right up there with my favorite slingshots ;- )

More to come tomorrow for sure.

Just received my Flo Green 1636 and it is very nice stuff, it is pretty darn resilient and snappy for sure. I looped two sets, one on a Luck Ring and one on a Mini Cheapo. Hopefully I will be able to try them today but it is hot as blazes out there so I will see if I'm up to it.

The first pic is the 10m of 1636 as I received it and the second is the Luck Ring on the left and the Mini Cheapo on the right loaded up with 1636 tubes. These are easier to pull back then looped 2040's, but not by a whole lot. They are cut to just over 6 inches maybe 6 1/8" and I'm pulling 32.5+ inches of draw, and yes there is a wall at the end of my draw length !! ... I'm getting about 535%ish elongation. I'm expecting bullets shooting small ball ammo, but after shooting we will see about how tired I get if the pulling force is to great. I don't think it will be, but we will see ;- )
