I have been having so much fun bashing and cutting cans I haven't spent much time on smaller targets. I have been moving back and shooting the cans from 15-20 yards to make up for the larger target, but for improving accuracy this is probably still less than optimal.

When going through the grocery I noticed 7.5 oz soda cans, and only $1.88 for a six pack! I couldn't resist. Still not a tiny target but smaller than a 12 oz can and a step up in degree of difficulty from 20 yards.

And since I am trying to put less of that junk in my body, they make fun exploding targets on the first shot before hanging them in the box to finish cutting (too sticky and messy to blow up in the box).

Pic shows single hits on full cans, one with 3/8" and one with 7/16". It took me 4 and 5 shots respectively to get these from 20 yards, but the misses were close. And the 7/16" nearly cut it on one hit.

So I am still having a hard time with disciplining myself to practice with small spinners and the like but I am finding neat compromises to add challenge while keeping the fun factor that can bashing provides.

I like steel cans . First they are available and few aluminum come into our house unless I play the scavenger and collect Al elsewhere when I see it. Second , it last soooo much longer and allows that aim small training an opportunity to be used , especially if it's attached loosely and is swinging. You can aim at the whole can but find a much great success ratio if you pick out a flicker of light reflection or distinctive spot to aim at, really a challenge if it's spinning. I like to alternate between the can and smaller spinner type targets from 12 to 15 yards , depending on where the shade is;) I only count the rabbit if I can hit it in the eye.

The steel cans are awesome too, and last much longer. One of my accomplishments of persistence is to cut steel soup cans. And the small ones are right in line with the aim small to miss small theme. I'll have to start eating less soup and cooking more with tomato paste.

Took out two more of the mini-sodas this evening. What the heck, six packs at a buck eighty eight I figured, right? Took them both out with two SOLID its from only three shots (third was a narrow miss) from 20 yards. Solid enough that the cans blasted a couple feet up and about six feet back along with the soda explosion. Wishing I could bottle a bit from how I was shooting this afternoon so I could have a few sips on those other days. These are some of the hits that bring joy to my soul. Yeah, juvenile thrills perhaps, but helps keep the aging at bay I figure.
