I picked this old Delong Ranger slingshot up the other day off E-bay. This was another slingshot from the early 60's that tried to obtain the success that the Wham-o was enjoying at the time. This was a "double banded" model. Double 3/8" wide gum rubber straps,1/16" thick. I have another one of these but this one looked unused so I went for it. I was right ,the slingshot wasn't even shot. Pouch all stiff no marks and bands clean but I won't stretch them-stock is mint to. A nice pick-up for a crazy slingshot guy! Flatband

That shooter's older than I am !

Wow, look at that clumsy slotted attachment design. Talk about rapid wear and bandslap.

Still, a wonderfully nostalgic piece.

Actually the slotted attachment works really well, have never had band slap and doesn't seem to wear the bands unusually. Makes it very easy for band changes and adjustments.....

Great frame FB can't beat those classics with a stick.

Nice find Gary!!! Is that Birch? I thought it was maple at first, but when I enlarged the pic it looks more like Birch to me. I actually like Birch a lot!!!!

Thanks Guys,
I love all the classics (for that matter any forked stick!). Darb, as far as bandslap and wear,I never got any band slap (through the throat set-ups are usually better with that) and to combat wear at the posts,I would always round off the edges of the slots,You are right about the wear on these,it usually occurs at the slots,if the bands had been tapered, then they would have worn at the pouch. Perry ,I thought it was Ash but you may be right. Ash was very popular back then for frames. The only thing I never liked about the older double banded models was that instead of 2 separate bands folded over at the pouch then tied, they often just looped them through and then knotted the whole mess creating a big blob of rubber that made smooth shooting tough. Back to e-bay and yard sales for the next gem in waiting! Flatband
