ENERGY GUESTIMATE: Let's assume that's a 12 fl oz can of say, seltzer. I just weighed a can of diet soda, and came up with 13.1 oz, which is probably close enough. As for speed, there's no reliable way to judge it, but if we assume that the sling will lob a can roughly as fast as a fit person with a good arm can throw it, let's guess 70 mph, which is 102 fps. That's probably fairly conservative.

Anyway, 13.1 oz at 102 fps {guess} is 181 joules, which is comparable to a 5.25 oz MLB baseball travelling at 164 fps (112 mph). However, because the can exploded on impact, not all of it's force was transferred directly into the target, so the actual impact is probably slightly less than the baseball equivalent.

Ouch.

Ouch! cupped pouch! I think the can opening (because of the weakness, the thinnest part of the mouth-piece; less than one millimetre thick) saved him from internal hemorraging?

Did you hear that high-pitched squeal of stunned agony ?

I wouldn't be surprised if it broke his sternum.

Or bruised his colon ... OOh! ... now I think, if it hit his sternum, he probably wouldn't have been able to scream, as it's most likely to have winded him. It could've hit his stomach, or been just above his diaphragm? Do you know biology? of course you know bits of biology ... I should be getting to bed.
