Hello! New member here, just created my account today. I’m 33 years old and just started shooting a slingshot 2 months ago. Man, I haven’t shot one since my Daisy Wrist Rocket when I was a kid but I purchased a Scout XT from SimpleShot. I love it and have really enjoyed shooting and learning about this wonderful sport. I’ve been shooting hammer grip style and just curious if anyone else out there uses this grip? Is it accurate or maybe less so compared to some of the other grips out there? Looking forward to learning from experienced folks here!

You're off to a good start with ANY Simple-Shot made slingshot - good choice.

Now, in additional to learning from this (wonderful) forum, seek out YouTube slingshooting how-to vids by Nathan Masters (owner of Simple-Shot), Zachary Fowler "Fowlers Makery and Mischief", "Gamekeeper John", and others.

WARNING: You WILL acquire the "Slingshot Acquisition Syndrome", from which there is apparently no cure, but is not deadly or injurious (unless you fail to wear eye protection, or shoot your mother-in-law in the butt). I myself have acquired it (there's no immunity), and at last count, have between 2-3 dozen slingshots, a small collection compared to others.

Welcome, new member!

Most of us shoot OTT (bands flip over the top of the forks), and hold the slingshot frame "gangsta" style, which means sideways, not up 'n' down vertical "hammer" style. We also prefer flat bands to tubes, and enjoy seeing a pretty, young, twerker every once in a while.

THWACK!

Welcome!

Don't settle on a grip or frame style and try to get it to work for you. Try as many different styles as you can and then go with what works for you. I love the way ergo frames with pinch grip handles look, but I can't hold them comfortably and therefore don't shoot them well at all. Don't even look forward to trying them anymore. Just keep plugging along and you'll eventually get to your own personal "ahhh haaa" moment!

Oddly enough - I created an account here today as well and live not too far from Colo. Springs and also shoot primarily hammer grip. As my wife often observes "there must be something astrologically."

Scout XT is a great first slingshot as it can be shot hammer, pinch, and thumb-supported (although not at the same time). You can also band it OTT or TTF (also not at the same time). As stated, you should experiment w/ different grips and different band configurations. If you settle on hammer grip, you may want to try a dedicated hammer grip - I have been enjoying my Pocket Predator Tac Hammer lately.

I shoot archery instinctively. When I shoot my hammer grip slingshots instinctively, I hold the forks upright. When I shoot reference point aiming, I hold the forks horizontally.

Maybe Hoggy will chime in here - I heard that he is down w/ the hammer grip.
