Hello to all,

I've been looking into the various Chinese slingshot designs to see what is available, but also to get a better idea of pricing of some of the slingshots sold by either Dankung or GZK - particularly after having purchased a few of these.

Some of the slingshots look perfectly identical, but the price difference can indeed be huge, as already pointed out by other forum members. Here is an example:

GZK sells the "Zhuilong" slingshot (quoted as 440 stainless steel) for USD 45:

The same slingshot i.e. it could well be another maker of the same design, who knows, sells here for USD 10 (not a clue what it's actually made of, though, looks like stainless steel too):

I read in some other forum that the Chinese order their slingshots via "Taobao" ("Engtaobao" = English version), which is apparently part of the Alibaba (Aliexpress) network. Taobao works differently to the Aliexpress site - see their web page "tutorial":

http://www.engtaobao.com/guide/view/order-tutorial.html

My feeling is that slingshots sold by Dankung and GZK are possibly sourced at the above site (among other), with prices subsequently adapted to western customers.

The slingshots sold via Taobao come with various accessory options and prices in Chinese currency (Renminbi), and you do have to add shipping charges to the final cost:

and

http://www.engtaobao.com/guide/view/shipping-price.html

By right-clicking on the Taobao website page of a selected product in Chinese language, you can activate the English translation from the drop-down menu.

Judging by the comments of (apparently demanding) Chinese customers on Taobao, I would assume that the products advertised are very likely made of the raw materials stated.

My feeling is that it is worth comparing various slingshots on sale with those advertised by both Dankung and GZK,, as prices for foreign buyers may indeed be significantly higher at both these online sellers - regardless of the fact that they do guarantee the materials of which their slingshots are made i.e stainless steel or titanium alloy.

FYI...see what you think.

What the others said, GZK will help you out. Also see about sending Fiveshooter a PM in case he doesn't respond to this thread. He seems to have a good grasp on the Chinese slingshot market and would likely have something to say. Good luck and happy shooting

Hi Pebble, as a Chinese I have something to say about it, they actually the same thing(the one that GZK sells and the $10 one), maybe GZK can offer you a better service I'am not sure, but I don't really suggest this kind, as you can see, the sighting part is made of ABS, which is easy to break or change its shape after a period of time.

After played around all different kind of slingshots, I think some Chinese style ones do have there advantages on design, I know a web store selling some good china slingshots: www.snipersling.com, I played most of those kind, well designed and handy to use, for your reference.

Cheers

probably not the same thing. you know, design is not protected in China, so anyone can make slingshots of others' design.

That leads to many products have same design but quite different quality.

What I trust are DANKUNG (really superior quality) and some individual Chinese sellers at Youtube

Reply to Min: thank for confirming what I have been looking into quite extensively.

When looking at Aliexpress or Taobao, the same products are sold by numerous online retailers, with minor variations in the designs e.g. a different set of sights, or in the accessories offered, and sometimes massive differences in prices.

The Chinese version of Taobao (link below) is very relevant when it comes to objective feedback from Chinese consumers who have ordered a particular slingshot model: a simple right-click of the mouse and and selecting "translate into English" in the drop-down menu makes it possible to read the various comments in the "cumulative comments" page, both positive or negative.

Although I do not doubt the integrity and service quality of both Dankung and GZK, I do question the fact of paying a significantly higher price than the one Chinese customers would expect to pay. The wonderful "free-bees" that are added to the slingshots ordered by western customers merely reflect that fact: there is no such thing as a free lunch, nor is there such a thing as "free shipping". Moreover, many people buy Chinese slingshots at Dankung and GZK because of the real risk of cheap zinc alloy (pot metal) copies of genuine stainless steel slingshots sold by unscrupulous sellers.

A clear sign of something rather fishy is a price that is way too low for the incredibly looking product offered online. The information I look for is what the slingshot is (supposedly) made of: ideally 304 or 404 stainless steel, or titanium alloy (TC21). The way the product is presented (photographs) is also an indication of how serious the online seller is about his business and the products sold: flashy advertising slogans can be a reason to look for something else, in my opinion.

The difference in price between Aliexpress and Engtaobao can also be very significant for the same product: always compare both to make sure. My feeling is that the quality of slingshots sold at engtaobao is possibly higher than at Aliexpress: I may of course be wrong.

A relevant example of price differences between Taobao (USD 10 to USD 20, depending on the accessories chosen) and Dankung (USD 37.40)

TAOBAO = https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.111.39acb4f0tnRqHm&id=571855103894&ns=1&abbucket=19#detail

DANKUNG = http://www.dankung.com/Gcontent/best-hunting-slingshot?ici=slide

Both these slingshots are most likely the one and same product from the same factory, other than the fiber optic sights.

Another example: the Zhuilong" slingshot sold by GZK for USD 45 sells at Taobao for roughly USD 20. Have a look:

TAOBAO: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.168.39acb4f0tnRqHm&id=563015781469&ns=1&abbucket=19#detail

GZK: https://trade.onloon.net/detail?itemId=9a0c420c6a09438b9cb4d6937978e639

Both these slingshots are most likely the one and same product from the same factory.

At the end of the day, everyone needs to choose what they feel best with.

I have "taken the risk" with engtaobao, and ordered this fine piece of shooting ware (hopefully) made of 304 stainless steel...I'll keep you posted on what it's truly worth when it eventually arrives with a box full of accessories - have a look:

https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.1.39acb4f0tnRqHm&id=572627429200&cm_id=140105335569ed55e27b&abbucket=19&skuId=3895676923980

Once again, Dankung and GZK are reputable online retailers, no question about it.
