Asymmetric bands

When cutting tapered bands what is the general thinking with symmetrical vs asymmetrical cutting?

I have been cutting my bands so that they are asymmetrical and only tapered along one side. This means they have a right angle instead of a more conical shape. I attach them at the fork so the tapered (i.e longer) side is on the outer edge of the fork.

I guess the stretch is then more even with the inner edge and I figured this made sense but after watching videos of others this doesn't seem the norm.

I am curious if others do this or have any thoughts as to how this changes the speed, accuracy and band lifespan.

Mainly shoot straight cuts, but experimented with tapers and I didn't notice a difference between the two.
