A couple of days ago I received two sets of bands from two different shooters asking me to give my thought on them. I have shot both sets and here are my thoughts. First the set on the left is Rayshot’s. This is a set made for shooting BB size to 1/4 inch diameter steel shot. The magnet is the smallest that I have ever seen installed in or on a leather pouch. The pouch is laminated with very thin cowhide and pigskin leather. The very thin small magnet is installed between the laminations. It easily picked up a 3/8 inch steel ball. I shot 3/8 steel balls and bb’s with it and it worked very well. One could hardly tell that the magnet was there except that it held the shot. Very nice Ray --- Next is a set of ZDP’s fast bands on the right. I shot 1/2 inch steel balls with them and had no noticeable fliers. They shot very well. They were nicely made and had excellent instructions with them. The rubber was Thera-Band Gold. These also are a very nice set of bands. Thanks guys!! -- Tex

Thanks for mentioning the magnetic pouch, that others can find in the vendor section. Dan's band set is good, I know I have tried his. Both of your pouches are making me experiment with a shorter dimension in the magnetic pouch.

Today, I found in the mail, a band set you sent me. No doubt I will love them as much as every post I have seen here compliments them.

I enjoy your posts Bill

Tex: did you experience any issue with the narrowness of the pouches causing top or bottom spin, when shooting 1/2" steel ?

I should have sent you a board cut, Bill. The Fastbands ar designed to be tied around a flat fork tip with a tie groove. Your attachment looks secure, but I haven't done any long-term testing as it's attached your photo and will only last as long as the rubber at the fork. What do you think of the pouch end? Unusual, eh? And yes, it is Thera-band Gold. You should be able to make out the white printing.

Brad, I personally don't get any spin, Bill just noted there were no fliers. Jeff's shot more with them than any other person and no spin problems. In fact I think you're the only person I gave bands to (there's been quite a few) that has had reported size problems (maybe Peresh, but I can't recall). Would you like replacements?

I asked because it's looking more like the issue I encountered may have been at my end, rather than the pouch. I'll experiment further when my collection soon grows enough to allow me several types of bands to be permanently mounted on different slings. It's always nicer to be able to simply grab a different sling from one's collection than change bands.

ZDP, I never have issues with breakage at the tips from wear on that frame. I did change the post to say Thera-Band bands. I have a set of Saunders bands that are only .025 thick that have over 2000 rounds on them (I lost count at about 2000) on that style frame. If any set should break from wear at the fork tips on that style frame it should be those. I personally don't care for a real narrow pouch, but it has nothing to do with how well it shoots, but more of how easy it is to use. The smaller and lighter the pouch end is, the faster the same set of bands will shoot, but there is more to pouch design than just raw speed. A person has to figger what he wants from the pouch and as anything else with slingshots it is a personal preference and a lot of compromising factors. Do you want speed, accuracy, repeatability, convenience, hunt ability and etc? I am not going to critical of the band sets above just because of this and I Sell band sets and my opinion would be biases anyway. Both of the band sets above are very sellable and are fine band sets. -- Tex

Yeah, I'd agree that the pouch size is very much a matter of preference. Personally, I want a pouch barely taller than the projectile and as light as possible. I could offer a large pouch option, but it goes against my philosophy and I don't plan to do it. If the buyer can't abide a skinny pouch, then I guess Fastbands are not for him.

My pouches are not that narrow or small (they are a compromise in size) and yet I have lot of buyers ask if I will make larger pouches for them. -- Tex
