Nice slings, I was just learning to use one when my shoulder bought the big one, but i still love the simplicity of them.

Here's my latest Peruvian Shepherd's Sling. I braid these myself.

With one of these I can throw egg-sized stones with great force and some degree of accuracy. The amount of power one of these imparts shames any slingshot!

thanks for looking

Those look great!!! I've made and used slings for years myself. The power is to say the least impressive!!! They have a great history like in the David and Goliath account, and the amazing "Left handed Slingers of the tribe of Benjamin who could hit a "hair" on a person using either hand. I love the stories about the slingers of the Balearic Islands who literally tore apart offshore ships with sling stones. Examples of ancient Roman medical tools and text exist that were used to extract the "Lead Glands" from the bodies of soldiers. Lot's of fun!!!

Mine are just simple leather pouch w/ parachord, nothing to look at but they work great. I usually carry one in a pocket when I head out to the wilds just like my catties. Personally, most of the time I might could hit an elephant (but then again, I wasn't trained from age 4 like those I've written about above) but what I lack in accuracy I make up for in "scary power"!!!!
They definitely have a major intimidation and "WOW!!!" factor.... their is no doubt in any ones mind that a egg sized stone would kill if you hear and see one thrown. I have "killed" more "Tree Giants" than I care to admit.
I really admire those who do great braiding and authentic reproductions!!! You guys rock!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!

Could you post a tutorial for these i would really like to try to make one. they look great
i have become reasonably accurate but i mainly throw for distance ( my recent record is egg shape stone that is slightly larger than an egg thrown the full length of a soccer field about 100m)

I have a tutorial and about 60 pictures but am restricted from posting them due to size of the entire file. This is a great shame as I spoon-feed you through every tiny step of braiding one of these slings and love to share what I know.

If anyone has any ideas that could help me get this posted (for I spent hours on top of hours getting it done) I'm very ready to act on it!

Perhaps you can create a blogger account and share the link here as blogger should allow you to upload a larger file than you can here.

Philly I don't sell things; my job provides well for me and my family. Ace, the idea of the blog may be what I need. I will look into it tomorrow and thanks for the idea. I spent a lot of time writing, braiding, and taking pics and it's a shame for it to sit there doing nothing in my hard drive.

Deimos, all the pictures are already uploaded to Photobucket. I'm going to look at the blog later today and will update everyone of my progress.
JM I would really like to have a copy of your pics and how to guide/ article as well..... really hope something works out!!! It would be a shame to let that kind of work go to waste so to speak.

I too have had an interest in having a sling and making one. The owning one is first, so Perry your simple construction is great way to get one that is functional then work on braiding one.

Your generosity Jmplsnt and those offering suggestions how Jmplsnt can share his tutorial I appreciate. Thanks.
