Can someone please tell me?

Like most in this awesome hobby, I accumulate slingshot stuff. Probably the biggest accumulated stuff is ammo. I currently have roughly 7000 1/4" steel, 3000 3/8", several hundred combined 7/16 and 1/2, about 4000 3/8 clay and 1000 1/2 clay. My current ammo of choice is 5/8 marbles, of which I have 800. The funny thing is, is that I rarely get the chance to get out to the woods to shoot ammo that I know I'm going to lose, so I shoot the same small handful of each size into my catchbox and reuse over and over again. So back to my opening question... Can someone please tell me why I am constantly on the lookout for MORE ammo? I went to the dollar store today and bought another 200 marbles. The sad part is that I needed to take a full 5 minutes to convince myself not to buy all they had!

Can someone please tell me
Sir, I can tell you things that won't let you sleep at night.

What would you like to know?

why I am constantly on the lookout for MORE ammo?
Because we are addicts, you and I.

The only way to get rid of an addiction is to replace it with another one. But do you want to replace this one? I sure don't.

The sad part
There is no sad PART.

ALL of it is sad. There is nothing sadder than grown men playing with marbles (and mothballs, in my case). We are sad sad people. And I am fine with it.

Actually, there is something sadder... an Englishman alone in the kitchen.... but that is besides the point.

I crochet and knit. Mostly crochet, i'm a slow knitter. Anyhow, i'm recovering from Y.A.S. It means Yarn Acquisition Syndrome. People suffering for Y.A.S can not pass up a ball of yarn without at least touching it and examining it. Usually we have to buy it. Our cars automatically stop at all craft and yarn stores. We can't help it. It's just a thing we live with.
"I know I have fifty shades of gray already, but i really need just one more. This special ball of gray yarn will be the magical one and make the most magical, perfect scarf ever .....
You have A.A.S. Ammo Acquisition Syndrome. Which could of become really ugly if it was called something like Ammo Securement Syndrome. But luckily it isn't. That bag of ammo will be the magical bag of ammo that helps you better use The Force and have all your shots rings true. Like Luke Skywalker making that blind shot down the thermal exhaust port, blowing up the Death Star. You too can become a Jedi Slinger.
But only if you buy that bag of ammo ....
And don't feel bad, because I am always on the lookout for good quality, large garbanzo beans as my ammo of choice. So that means I have. G.A.S. Be glad you are not me and suffer from G.A.S.

Albert Einstein once said: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

Well, that extra ammo supply may just be subconscious preparation, who knows? :hmm: .

I mainly shoot .177s lately. I bought 4000 of them, but wind up using the same handful over and over out of the bottom of my catchbox. This might be a lifetime supply, yet I can't walk past the marbles at the dollar store without grabbing a bag, and i dont even shoot them anymore! Lol. ...peas in a pod

Thanks everyone. It's good to know that I'm not alone!

And thanks to Lisa, now I know that when my wife calls me an A.S.S., it's a compliment!

Ditto,

This thread brings up another thought. Does anyone have any novel ideas on the best way to organize and/or store their ammo? Other than just random containers scattered around the workshop. Thinking that there has to be a better OCD method to ammo storage.

I would do something like really big, plastic peanut butter bars or big square jars you get mixed nuts in. They sell plastic jars at Menards, I just saw them yesterday. You can then get a small bottle of chalkboard paint at any craft store and paint it on a section of the jar. You would have an easy to change label, plus a place to write notes about that ammo such as favorite SS, pouch, bands/tubes to go with that ammo. I think they may now sell peel and stick dry erase marker labels also, which could be used for the same purpose.
Clear plastic shoes boxes with snap on lids would stack nicely, but not be as secure as a screw top lid if accidently dropped. I drop stuff all the time, so I will need a secure lid.

Menards is an awesome store. Wish they were in the Southeast of the USA. I travel for work and occasionally I'm in a city with one. Always a dilemma on how to carry stuff home.

Good idea, reminds me a little of the guess how many m&m's are in the jar contest. I do like the idea of stackable square containers to save on storage space.

I just checked. They have square 32oz plastic jars at Menards for about a 1.50 with the rebate. I'm sure it's something all the big box home improvement stores carry.
