My guess, based on the close scrutiny of the bark pattern and the general overall coloring, along with the grain pattern, is that it is most assuredly wood cut from a tree. I have had many years of schooling and I am positive, without a doubt, that it is also considered a "solid" wood, useful for many purposes, including the positive characteristics for lasting application in the world of "slingy" frames and "stretchies" of all shapes and sizes as long as they are not bigger than the tree itself. Yep, that's what it is.
