Carving knife and pocket saw

I have this old red cedar fork that I chopped out of a rotten log. The outer wood is all mushy and nothing but pure red heartwood left at the core.

I thought this would be a good piece to try out my new tools.

I took the wife to the outlet mall near the fancy knife store. Luckily, I was able to stop by and pick me up a new carving knife and pocket saw.

The knife is custom made with a 1/16", 1095 carbon steel blade and a nice big comfortable handle. I have several carving knives including Mora and Flexcut. I bought the custom model because I really liked the look and feel, but to also support our local knife maker.

The Opinel saw is very pocket friendly. I have larger saws; but I wanted something a bit smaller to carry those times a big saw isn't feasible. I made a few cuts with it and it is very sharp. I just have to stay conscious of the shorter stroke when cutting.

Great looking carver.

My first introduction to the Opinel saw. Great idea.

Looks like you are making good progress on the cedar fork, too.

That heartwood is worth the effort to reach. Looking forward to a progress report!

Yeah, I forget where I saw the Opinel saw in use (here or youtube); but once I saw it, I knew I needed one.

I am not disappointed. Again, very pocket friendly.

Check it out!

Yes, I'll show it for sure. Just not sure on the time frame.

I have a pile of "frames in the works"

I think that we all have UFOs (unfinished frame objects).

I have never seen an Opinel saw. It looks like a winner.
