Chalice from a yellow cedar

Hi Gang, here's a commission build. Its a full chalice . It was originally supposed to be an oak fork, but this cedar was just crying out to be a slingshot so I went with it. I added a curvy swell to make it a bit more comfortable in hand.
This is the second fork I've harvested from this tree and the grain is just as nice as the last. The wood was a pleasure to work with. What an amazing tree! I think Ill go back to it to see if there are any more forks on offer.
Thanks for checking it out

I am becoming a fan of using cedar. Is it eastern red cedar? Here in Texas I thought cedar was only good for fence posts. When you look at it the bark and new wood it is soft and splintery. Luckily I collected some larger logs that looked like they had a crotch in them and the heartwood is dense, very easy to work and smells great. Nice work. I will have to read the title "yellow cedar".

Had to do some research and the "Yellow Cedar' is actually of the cypress family.

Yep, its technically a cypress, in this neck of the woods its often called Alaskan cedar. Theyre fantastic landscape trees.its very very aromatic. My whole house smells like cedar. Lol the sapwood is very soft and stringy to work with. You really have to make sure its dry before you can do anything with it.
