Not like that blue chick on X-Men, I mean changing your shooting form.
My first slingshot (since I was very young) was a Trumark FS1 that I bought in October. Due to the fact that I couldn't hold it upright with the wrist brace (physically can't do it for some reason) I shot it gangsta style. I picked up the technique of aiming through the forks with this one.
Fast forward a couple of months and I've made a few of my own slingshots of various designs and I'm still aiming the same way, high anchor point (like top of ear, head straight up), aiming through the forks. My shooting gets stuck in a rut and no matter how much I practice I never get any better than "okay". This is frustrating when you shoot every day, often 200+ shots. I had reached a turning point due to my own mentality-- either find a new hobby or find a way to improve.
I watched some of the top guys' videos trying to learn how to shoot better. I tried everything from full sideways to full upright and every type of aiming. There were several false starts but I kept going back to "my way" of doing it. I knew my I posted my woes in this post early in January and recieved some great advise from members of this community. It was Smitty's video (linked in that post) that ended up putting it together for me. Using the suggestions in that post my shooting began to improve very rapidly. Now it's jaw-bone anchor, line up bands, aim is variable depending on which catty I'm using, but I'm getting a pretty good system going for the various types (ttf, ott, tube, etc) that it doesn't take long to get profecient with a new sling.
What I'm saying is don't get locked into "your way" of shooting if it's not working for you. If you feel like you're practicing enough that you should be a better shot then experiment with different things until something clicks. Changing form is tough, even if you've only been at it a short while. Like the title of my blog says, life is a science experiment and this is all for fun. But it's more fun when you're hitting stuff!
I agree with the not being locked into what initially feels comfortable. I loved shooting the catty horizontal. Tried many slight variations shooting horizontal to improve and could only get so good. I stuck with a particular form so as to be sure I was giving a form long enough to see it's worthiness or not.As you mention, when I felt my accuracy should be improving it stagnated. Also like you say, I agree, "Time to explore" something else. I was beginning to incorporate gangster style shooting to learn it. I switched to it because I could sense something better from it. Big improvements.Good blog. Hopefully we will hear more processes towards improved accuracy.
