I started to look for a place I could get cheep ammo and I decided that marbles were OK for target practice for my kids and myself. I went to Wall-Mart, Target, K-Mart, and a few dollar stores and nothing!
So I decided I'd try the hobby shop and they told me their suppler in FL was all out? I finally went to Toys R Us and they had "sets" of marbles that consisted of 12 small marbles two large and a playing mat for $20. I was just about to give up and get the ones from Trumark or just go with steel, when my wife asked me if I checked one of those Art and Fabric stores in the decorative glass vase section. So I went to our local Michael's and got 1/2" glass marbles in counts of 100 for $2.50 . They come in all kinds of colors.

Where do you all get your marbles? Is $2.50 for 100 a good price?

I buy mine from a local department store in the aquarium section. A bag of 50 costs $.39. The marbles measure .62 inch and there are always more than 50 per bag and one large (.95 inch) marble is always included.

Watch for sales at Michaels. They recently had 250 marbles on sale for 1.00 a bag. I also bought a block of natural clay for 6.00 for 10lbs. It will yield I would guess about 2000 rounds of ammo close to the size of .44 cal lead shot give or take a few cal. I can make about 200 in about 15min. They shot very well. They dry hard over night, but if you can't wait put them in a oven dish on you BBQ grill for about 5min and they are ready when they cool. I have tried just about every type of man made and natural ammo and so far the clay is about the cheapest to buy. Thanks

As my wife warned me that shooting Chinese Buddhist bracelets would be tantamount to varminting with a rosary, I went looking down the market for beads. I was assured by the Temple Street night market vendor that these were "Healthy Beads" and had no religious significance. I Googled them and it seems there are two types. One kind is worn on the wrist to ward off rheumatism and the others get worn where there is considerably less risk of sunburn. Those of you who have been to the night market at Temple Street can vouch that there is a good probability it could be either. If somebody sees me wearing these in the next few days and giggles, I won't know how to respond.

Anyhow, they're made of magnetite and clump well in the pocket. The big ones weigh 3.7g (60 grains) and the small weigh 1.2g (19 grains). They were dirt cheap at about a buck for a bracelet of 25 small and about two bucks for a bracelet of 19 large. They're cheaper in the bead stores I'm sure. I'm not selling, though I'm sure someone else from Hong Kong/ China will be able to sort you out.

I need them to do some slingshot testing with lighter shot and the small metal BBs I have seem to reflect too much light not to register on the Chrony.

The ones you shot were a different shape (many flat sides) and possibly different material. I'm not suggesting it for power. I want lighter balls so I can plot curves of velocity vs mass and extrapolate.Besides, they are no lighter than marbles of the same size. If you want power, you should drop those steel balls and get lead.

This is hematite. It is naturally magnetic. It should be a little heavier than glass. I use the stuff to hold notes to my fridge. Easy to find them on the lawn with a hunk of iron.
