Cleaning Off Tube Mold Release With Simple Green ?

340 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  flipgun
I have some 3050 that is pretty good stuff (not as good as the stuff I get from Slingshooting.com, but still pretty good). The issue I have with it is it has a slippery mold release on the tubes and even when tying them good the tubes are still prone to slipping.

I just used Clorox powder and scrubbed them and that tends to work a bit, have not tried alcohol yet but I might. I have some Simple Green at work and will try that tomorrow ---- Has anyone had an issue with mold release left on your elastic and what did you use to get it off so the tubes were non slippery ?

I went for a quick google and simple green sounds pretty good. Most soaps have petroleum of some kind in them and that's not good for rubber. Isopropyl 99% and acetone were listed also. I would sacrifice a bit for science and try simple green and a nylon dish scrubber. If it doesn't work. it will still be on there and I would move on to one of the other two. :iono:
I get the Simple Green later today and will try it out. That mold release on those 3050 is tough to get off, the Clorox worked a bit, but really not good enough.

i will report back tomorrow.

Well I got my bottle of Simple Green concentrate in and I tried it on the tubes that were coated in mold release and slippery.

I can say the Simple Green works great. I sprayed it on the tubes rubbed them real well and ran them through warm water, I did this twice, dried them off and let them dry. After they dried I pinched the tubes between my thumb and index finger and pulled on the tube ..... it did not slide through my fingers, it stayed put, just like my other good quality tubes do.

So now I feel confident that the tubes sets I make will not be slipping with this tubing like they have been in the past ;- )
