very pretty
is it true damascus steel...or etched to look like it?
Tom
Thanks Friend..

I really appreciate your post.

It is true damascus, the steel in the above photo is Stainless Damascus with D2 tool steel in the mix which gives really good cutting performance.

The steel layers are stacked, arc welded together then heated to forging temperature..Once the block is forged the pattern can be manipulated.

The pattern runs all the way through the steel

Knifemaking is my sole source of income and the way I support my family....I build lots of knives and use alot of damascus steel.

Here are a few more pictures of custom damascus knives.....

Thanks...

That pattern is called the "Sportster"

The ones in that photograph are Stainless Damascus with Mastodon Ivory Handles.

The Ivory is from the glaciers in Russia and is about 30,000 yrs old..

The Colors are from contact with the minerals/ground for thousands of years with Blue being the most desirable and expensive color..

Sometimes the Ivory alone can cost several hundred dollars for one handle depending on the colors and thickness..

Mastodon is one of our favorite handle materials, its very durable and they dont make it anymore...

The knife in the middle of the picture is pre-ban Elephant Ivory

A field grade Sportster in tool steel with a synthetic handle starts at $299.00

The Sportster with Damascus and Mastodon Ivory starts at $599.00 and goes up depending on the ivory..

Here is another image of the Sportster in Pre-Ban Elephant Ivory and Red Stag..

Thanks again for posting...

The damascus steel blades shown above are forge welded, cut and ground in your own shop, not bought in as billets, then farmed out to an OEM to be waterjet cut and CNC ground, right? And I presume you have some documentation on the elephant ivory?

Yeah, all ivory is all but impossible to import these days...

That Damascus really is beautiful though!
