First off, I am deformed and have a shorter than "normal" draw.

Unless I am mistaken, the "average" slingshot is set up for a 28 inch or so draw, maybe longer, if the anchor point is behind the ear. (I can't reach there too good; even without anything in my hand. Limited movement in shoulder.).

My draw is 22 (twenty-two) to 23 (twenty-three) inches, depending on my anchor point.

If I cut say 5 inches from the bands (so at my pathetic draw, the poundage of the bands will be the same as at 28 inches), will I get close to the performance (velocity and striking power) of uncut bands at the full 28 inch or so draw?

I'm going to presume "not a chance" since my compound bow (Diamond Razor Edge) set for the maximum draw weight of 62.5 pounds at a 23 inch draw is not shooting the arrows at the same velocity as it would with a 28 inch or longer draw. (I think it is between 50 to 80 FPS or so slower)

I don't want to shoot a marble or a .490 lead round ball or whatever, at a squirrel, for example, and have it bounce off, and the squirrel think a dragon =fly or grasshopper just crashed into his head or shoulder/ribs, give me a "Really?!?" look, then laugh at me as he (or she) scampers away.,

Thanks in advance.

If can't lengthen your draw make your bands shorter. Divide your draw length by 5 and add an inch for tying the pouch and attaching to the forks. If you don't get the results you want, shorten the bands by a half inch and try again. Keep in mind the more you over stretch the bands the shorter the band life will be.

To increase velocity acceleration path plays a huge role. To increase draw length (acceleration path) you can use an extended fork as suggested or learn behind ear (often referred as semi-butterfly or floating anchor) or butterfly shooting.

If you don't want to manipulate draw length then go for maximum stretch of the elastics. The shorter the cut length of the bandset the longer the draw length will be despite same distance between fork and anchor point. Since elastics vary a lot you may experiment with cutting bands on various stretch factor. Higher than 5.Use tapered bands, that will allow you to truly pull the bands to the max. without the feel of loosing control because the bands are like close to snap.

Reduce weight in the system. Smallest pouch that fits, light ties, no excess rubber at the pouch tie.

Shooting faster (reducing aiming and hold time) can also add some speed, but not that much. A slight flip in the end may also help.

It worth to experiment what ammo can give you the most kinetic energy for your needs. There is a chance you can get a better and more accurate hit by a slower but heavier ammo.

Change up one thing at a time, chose the one that gives you results and pick something in addition to improve upon.

Let us know how it came out!

Tremo
