Hey guys I went to the post office today and came home with a prize! A box from sling-n-shot! Inside was the cutest little sling and a slew of arrow heads. I told Darrell if he sent me an arrow head, I'd still have it the day I died. I have a mall tin, and I'll put a bed of cotton in then the arrow heads then another bed of cotton. Then they are going into my treasure drawer!

The little sling is just perfect as far as fit and finish goes. Mr. Allen certainly doesn't have anything against a little sanding! Not a mark anywhere except of course his trademark.

Man... sorry Darrell, I'm a lousy photographer!
No worries Steve, glad you got it and appreciate the work that goes into arrowheads and sanding efforts for a nice finish......just sorry I was rushed to ship and totally forgot to send back the slightly enhanced twisty sagebrush frame you sent me a while back.

That frame was one of the two Wild Indian Mock Orange raw forks that Clint sent me for Christmas.....the other one is almost done and will be going out the door soon.

SJAaz, that is fantastic slingmail.

Darrell is a fine slinger, knapper, and human.

I rang a sawmill blade gong in his honor at 100 yards ( I think that's right). He sent it to the Tennessee Slingshot Weekend... it'd be awesome if he sends his person this year.

I really appreciate the gifts Darrell. I'll get even with you somehow. Maybe I'll see some wood that's not familiar to you or something with a flute ish look to it.

By the way, how DO you make a hole down through a long piece of wood without splitting it.

I buy ( or used to ) the flute blanks from a friend with a custom built machine....kind of the same process as a gun bore drilling setup.

Otherwise, you can use bamboo or Urban Pine ( PVC)

Most flute makers use the split and route method, by having two equal size wood blanks, route a 1/2 circle channel in each using a cores box bit, then gluing the 2 halves together and rounding over from there.

Hi, I get the idea that many here are also musically oriented. Here is a pic of one of the penny whistles I have made. This one is is D tuning, and made of thick nickel silver, with a plastic pinned fipple. I have made about 30 or so in different keys and metals, also titanium jaw harps.

Have never tried making a penny whistle Cass, but I made Native American style flutes for about 13 yrs, starting out with bamboo, then wood, and LOTS of PVC flutes.....your penny whistle looks great.

Hi thanks, I have only made one Native style flute, very difficult. I am very obsessive about things, and after I got a nice Copeland penny whistles, I had to make my own. I couldn't find any instructions or information about this, so I started from scratch. I measured all the whistles I had and did a lot of calculus and I have two formulas for strait and tapered bores. Tells were to put the holes, but the diameter is done with a tuner.

I spent many years in a 18' sea kayak, picking up Indian Artifacts from the shorelines of the Chesapeake Bay. They were some of the best times of my life. When I was not chasing them from a kayak, I was walking low tide lines.

Hi, I haven't made one for a while, I lost my calculations book for several years. So maybe in the far future? Thanks though!
The closest I ever got to a tin whistle was a Bosun's Pipe. We were handed a new pipe (made in england), were told to tune it, make a lanyard and learn to blow it.
