I think the famous exhibition shooter Johnny Milligan supposedly designed and made a slingshot like this. The question I have is did Milligan make this one for ZABIK? Or did ZABIK make these for Milligan? Or was ZABIK the foundry?

Does anyone know for sure?

Never heard of ZABIC. I also never saw a Milligan with that name printed on it. Probably the original owners name. I know that the Deerslayer and Killdeer slingshots were cast with ZAMAC, some kind of aluminum alloy. They were made by Tinker Manufacturing out of Lapeer Michigan. Hope this helps.

Thanks Gary for the information. It is very much appreciated. From what little I got off of the web. John Milligan worked on missiles in Detroit. He could have had the means and materials to cast his slingshots. An interesting peace of history anyway.

I was thinking the same thing before I read Gary's post. Zabiic doesn't look as bold as all the textured areas of the frame, it kinda looks out of place. it's a cool frame regardless!!

Useful info about ZAMAK alloys (basically "pot metal") here at Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamak

"The name zamak is an acronym of the German names for the metals of which the alloys are composed: Zink (zinc), Aluminium, Magnesium and Kupfer (copper).[2] The New Jersey Zinc Company developed zamak alloys in 1929. Zinc alloys are popularly referred to as pot metal or white metal. While zamak is held to higher industrial standards, it is still considered a pot metal."

Definitely not a safe metal alloy for slingshots (risk of broken forks under tension), but one that is used for numerous airsoft replicas and certain cheap firearms in smaller calibers.

Perhaps I can close the mystery as "SOLVED".

I did a web serch on the last name "Zabik" It turns out it is a common name. A 1940 census of one Zabik family was in Hamtramck, MI a neighborhood in Detroit, MI. Detroit is also the home of John Milligan the famed exhibition slingshot shooter and the maker of the slingshot. Under a magnifying glass I studied the Zabik stamping. The stamping is a fantastic example of single letter stamping I've seen. You can see that certain letters are deeper struck than others and letters not exactly perpendicular to a base line the way a manufacture's stamp would be.

Having experienced a few dog and pony shows as a kid back in the 50's it was common for a professional to show up, performs amazing tricks and then offer to sell goods after the demonstration. One I remember very well was Duncan yoyo's. A pro showed up at school lunch time and on the grounds performed an incredible yoyo act and claimed he would be back the next day with yoyo's to sale. I begged a quarter off of my mother to buy one.

Perhaps this slingshot was purchased at one of Milligan's expos or other source and stamped with the buyers name. As Flatband suggested I am convinced that the stamping on this slingshot is a previous owner's name.

Thanks for everyone's interest and comments.

Maybe the owner just put his name on it.
