Ok,
Here are four of a first bunch of board cut slingers.
One is made from plywood salvaged out of industrial shipping cartons.
Two through Five are made from the kitchen drawer plywood that was removed from our kitchen during a remodel. 1976 plywood.
So far, Five is fav.

One:
Yes, it's crude, I was in a hurry to shoot it.

Two:
Big-Ugly!
Really really tough black thera's. Drawer front ply.
Needs more reshaping.

Three:
Setup for inside tying.
Happy faces are for me, to tell which side I view.

Five: (Four is on loan)
6-32 screws and PEM nuts (pressed into the aluminum pieces)

Gee, you'd think I was hooked

You have begun the journey ... only time will tell if it will lead you to enlightenment or into total insanity. You could reach the destination surrounded by friends and family, or you might end your journey standing all alone in a sea of self doubt. Just remember to use the farce to guide you and never allow yourself to enter the realm of shadow. I like the ideas in all of your designs.

Time to laugh? I wouldn't do that. You have some interesting shapes and band attachments.
Thanks for the kind thoughts, I appreciate it.
It's just the crudeness that I'm curious about, since I've made several Mountain Dulcimers (kept some too) my woodworking is actually much better than those "examples".
I just need to slow down and finish them off before tying on those "bands".

My link scroll down to the mountain dulcimer links, you'll see it, the fan-fretted one.

Stay on your own path. Slingshots are simple. Just use your own ideas and use the force. You are going to be a top designer of slingshots, I can tell.

My first board cuts were started by using a small table saw to cut the grouve for tying the bands on ( one pass 1/8 inch deep and 3/4 inch from the end of the board ). Then the shape was rough cut with a coping saw. Next I brought everything to size with a drum sander mounted in a small drill press which left sharp edges. I did not have a router to round over so I used sand paper to remove the sharp edges until the slingshot was comfortable to hold.

A person has to make a few board cuts to work out their methods using the tools they have or can easily obtain.

Crudeness? I had saw marks because I did not hold the coping saw straight. The grouve for tying the bands were not always square because I did not hold the end of the board against the fence for the complete cut. I over sanded and was a little lopsided. However, I had fun making every slingshot and they all worked.
