today i decided to carve a catty from some cherrywood i had in the shed for the wood burner. the only tools i had were a mallet and chisel a rasp, stanley knife, handsaw and a jigsaw to cut out the throat. there is still some sanding and evening out to do but the main shape is there. i really enjoyed doing this i think il buy some carving knives and make some more. cant wait to fit it with bands and test it. hope you enjoy.

Very original design, will look great when finished. How are you going to finish it, oil or varnish?

It looks like a cactus. Excellent catty, mate! It's gonna look very fine all oiled or varnished.

O my!!!

That is a fantastic effort with a beautiful product. I absolutely love that shape and palm swell affect. I am sure that will work great for you and whatever bands you end up using..

I'm, sure that required loads of work, but with such a nice coloration it will be a stunning result once finished and sealed.

Cheers - John

.......I may have to try that, I know I've got tons of firewood laying around somewhere....

I carved these out of a piece of cherry that looked just like that.

I have more of it but not big enough for a catty. It carves nicely.

definately nice work.
cheers guys. im not sure how to finish it yet i have some linseed oil which i normally use on naturals but because it is my first hand carved i might give it some special treatment and buy some varnish. does anyone know what would be good varnish to use. ps those spoons are very nice i could really get into this carving its very rewarding.

Nice looking slingshot, I like linseed oil or furniture wax both bring out the beauty of the grain.
I like your spoons Dayhiker, carving spoons and other utensils is almost as addictive as making slingshots.
I recently made this for a friends birthday, also in cherry wood.
