I had found a piece of what I think is Osage orange in a burn pile years ago. I sliced it in half and it has sat in my wood stack for st least 20yrs. I am new to this forum and would like to post a pic of what I drew up before I start slicing and dicing.
Since it is cut from a single board, I'd consider adding some thickness where the forks join the handle. With straight-grained woods, that's an area given to weakness due to short grain.
It looks like it is going to be a beautiful piece of wood. Be sure to ponder Kaw Kans advice and beef up area where the arms twist. Can't have our new guys getting conked in the head with a broken tang.
That’s a beauty! I must agree though. Osage is hard as a rock but it can develop a crack anytime. I always check mine over good before I shoot em. Enjoy your build and welcome to the forum!
I have cracks.!!!. Luckily it is in the base of the handle. trimming most ofvit away.this is worse than gem cutting. At least with gem stones you can see the cracks before you start.
I also have to wait until tomorrow. Went to look for my coping saw and remembered that my son had borrowed it years ago. I need an excuse to go to home depot.

Fitted out.I scavenged the bands from some heavy latex gloves.they are only about 0.020 thick so not much zip. Shooting some green peas I got from the Indian food store. Way more accurate than the 10$ Walmart special that got me started on this obsession. I was able to hit the same cedar board from about 15 meters. Real bands and some heavier ammo are in order. Was out at a friend's ranch and started scavenging her brush pile. Got some cherry and cedar. Need to make an ammo trap before I start on my next project.
