I'm really enjoying this hobby so far! I have had fun building my first two antler slingshots. I'll be doing some phenolic laminates soon...

Yesterday I got a package from Tex-Shooter and tied them onto my second antler slingshot... Today I got 15lbs of 1/4" steel and 15lbs of 3/8" steel from Royal Ball. LINK I also recieved a VERY cool package from Ray!

Anyway I spend 15 minutes shooting out behind my shop and found I was very quickly getting close to hitting a 6" X 6" square at around 30-40 feet! I got several hits too... I found it very close to my traditional archery shooting and I think these skills will transfer either way. I use the same anchor...

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP SO FAR!

Tom

If they're the Express Bands, I'd recommend not going any smaller than the 3/8" steel, because stronger bands driving light ammo tend to magnify any issues you have with less than flawless grip/angle/release, and you may get some handslap when the bands overshoot the fork.

I ran though a pair that lasted 400 rounds and (to me anyway) even the 3/8" felt just on the edge of being a bit too light ... the bands shoot smoother with 7/16 and 1/2".

They're great bands ... definitely one of my favorites so far. You'll be tightening up your groupings to 3x3 in no time.

Pretty sure I'm shooting his medium power bands...

Tom
I think I was using the "express" bands ... double band gum rubber latex per side. I think someone said they have a 14-16 lb draw, which is at the low end of ZDP's "strong" range. What's "medium" to one person is "strong" to another.

That reminds me ... gotta place an order. I'll ask when I do.
I don't sell gum rubber, only Latex. My bands are Target 10 pound, Field 13 pound and Express 16 pound pull at about 29 inches. Of course as with all rubber, batch to batch will vary just a little. I designed them as a after market product for the Saunders flat band slingshots. I hope you all enjoy them. -- Tex-shooter
It is a great hobby isn't it Tom?

I believe I was shooting the Express 16's ... great bands, and a great value.

I love this hobby. So much fun in shooting. Relatively inexpensive too. I could talk slingshots all day.
I think the thing about having this hobby is that it is so accessible anyone can put their work on the plate I'm hooked to it. I think it will be a long time before I get bored.
One of the biggest attractions of the hobby for me is the economy of it. Aside from home grown materials, just comparing costs with what guns would take. Around two pennies a shot for ammo, and twenty to forty dollars per weapon (time or money) contrasts nicely versus ten cents a shot for 22LR (my info may be out of date) and a hundred or more for a weapon. Also It is very unlikely that the neighbors would put up with rifle shooting in the back yard.

I also can make a slingshot, whereas (and I know this through experementation) I cannot make a good bow. Much lower learning curve for the novice maker.

All that and a great community.
Anyway I spend 15 minutes shooting out behind my shop ...

Have you set up any way to recover ammo?

Kinda funny, it was hanging around some knife forums that turned me on to slingshots. It's an honor to hang in the same neighborhood, sir. It seems there are a lot of legends in this little corner of the world.
