Good news for me!

Nearby I found a seller that is willing to give away 55 gallon plastic drums for $5. I found a fantastic tutorial for making a catchbox from it.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can make legs for it? Preferably pvc so I can take off the legs and put it in my car.

Just make a frame to set it on. Gluing some together would be best, but you could knock it apart and tap it together with a rubber mallet.

See, this is why I ask the smarter people than me for ideas like this

There's gotta be a stump, a rock or a cinder block laying around somewhere.....or hang it from a tree. Being 55 gallon, it's not really portable.

Facewizard are you just trying to make us all feel bad? I thought I had it bad having to shoot indoors because it's been too cold, but being able to shoot whenever I want definitely sounds a lot better and having to drive somewhere to shoot.

No way to shoot in your apartment? Some ¼" steel Maybe and some super light bands? Even if you can get 20 feet away and shoot that's going to give you a ton of practice so you don't have to go out somewhere else.

Just checking, it would suck not to be able to shoot whenever I wanted to.

Cheers

I have mine setting on a bench. Mines the smaller blue one, but if I want to go somewhere, I just take it and the bench. Also nothing wrong with having two. Hide the smaller portable one from the wife.

You can heat PVC with a heat gun, keep it moving so you don't burn it, and bend two pieces into leg shapes.
Drill holes through the legs into the bottom of the barrel and attach them with big bolts, washers, and easy to remove wing nuts.....total ease of disassembly and portable.

I would probably use larger PVC like 1.250"

How about using some furniture legs that have the threaded rods in them? Drill holes of the appropriate size in the bottom of the barrel, insert the threaded stem of the furniture leg and add a nut and washer. I think you can get legs like this at the hardware store or used at thrift shops or steal some from your sofa.

Not even plastic ammo in the house? Doesn't break anything.

So FYI if you want to do this too- I just picked up a 30 gallon container from a car wash nearby for free! i called around 10 car washes and I finally got a hold of one that said they had them out by the dumpster and I could take all of them if I wanted.
