Got balls...?

.....clay that is. I have always used steel balls Never even tried clay balls. After reading several posts about clay I decided to get some - chose Amazon because of free and fast shipping. I ordered a batch of 1,600 on Sunday and got them today. First thing I noticed was how light they are - of course they would be. Didn't take long for me to get to shootin' to test them out. In a word 'amazing'. And what is really amazing was 9 can hits out of ten shots, and only 2 of the nine broke up. They are accurate and tough. So friends, if you're thinking about getting some clay balls, consider the results I found in testing them out today. I was shooting at a tin can hung in front of a typical catch-box. For those folks that are interested, here is the link to the balls on Amazon:

I am a big fan of cheap disposable ammo, as most of my shooting is not into a catch box. I shoot a lot of clay and I shoot a lot of .177 bbs. I like the clay ammo that is lighter in color so I can see it better in flight. The clay ammo that simpleshot is selling now is some of the most consistent I have seen in terms of size and roundness.

Agreed Love Clay ammo! Great with a light band set and same weight as quarter inch steel.

Actually Vince, your posts regarding clay were responsible for me to buy clay balls. So I thank you!

That is cool hermit. Now that you have that thing set up for clay, if you aren't shooting quarter inch steel yet head to Walmart and pick up a small box for under $5 and see what fun you can have with that too!

Just finished a round of clay in my basement, and actually chuckled with the fun I was having. Have to go to Walmart tomorrow and will pick up a box of 1/4 inch. Take care and thanks for your input.

Checked Walmart yesterday and they had none. Wife mentioned she thought she saw a tin of steel balls on a book shelf. Sure enough I found a few pounds of 1/4 inch steel. A few years ago I got 3/8", also an assortment of various sizes, and apparently 1/4" as well from Simple Shot! Made my day. Did notice one thing though. The 1/4" seem almost too small for a pit pouch - mildly difficult to pinch the ball. No problem with standard pouch.

Rich, if you have some plain microfiber pouches, you can sort of make a pit locating pouch by putting a ball in it, and carefully/ slightly heating with a lighter, and clamp the ball in the pouch till it takes a "set" and forms to the ball......doesn't take much heat though.

Yes for me I use a 42 mm pouch for my quarter inch steel and as mentioned above you can burn new pinch spots on a standard microfiber pouch. I use I find my spots and then I take a quarter inch or 3/8 inch steel ball put it in a vise grip and put it over the stove until it's very hot and then I burn the holes that way to make sure it's a nice solid hole just like the ones you buy or you can get some small pouches 42 mm size on your next order and you can be like me and have over 50 of those size ready to go.With the light pool weight I imagine I will never break one of these pouches.

If you want I can send you a couple 42 mm pouches through the mail.. I think I have enough for three lifetimes. Just shoot me a private message and I'll be glad to send you a couple to try.

Cheers
