So I just puchased this today on etsy as a really cool wallhanger. It is listed as 7 1/4" tall by 4 1/4" wide, supposedly from the 1940's.
But now I have questions about banding it for use and not just the wall, because of course you know I've got to try and shoot it!

Does this style need to be be banded at the tips?
Could I use tabs or some other method to attach the bands or tubes further down so it's not so wide of a sighting area and a little less leverage is needed to hold it and draw back?

I'm thinking of i choke up on it and lower the band anchor points, it would be easier to use.
I was even thinking of some sliding clamp system like is sold (by simple shots?) to clamp on tubes quickly to wire frame wrist rockets.

Would there be any advantage to being able to slide the bands/tubes up and down the forks to change the frame width?

Maybe a quick change attachment system using tiny pipe clamps?

Any ideas thoughts and explanations are greatly appreciated. Remember I'm completely new so my logic is probable very faulty and I'm open to input.
I couldn't sleep and bought this around 3 in the morning strictly as a wall hanger, then laid there thinking .... What if I .....
I'm here to learn!

Ohyea that is a very cool find! Let's see. If I was going to band that up I'd lash on gypsy tabs to shoot over the top. However, being SlingSuperstitious I know that I would keep it on my Sling Alter under my SlingGod and touch it everytime I went out the door to go shooting. But that's me.

Lol, Mo! Actually, I am extremely superstitious. I worked most of my adult life with the elderly as a caregiver. I did a lot of overnight hospice care with people very near the end of their existence on this plane and have experienced things that can not be explained. I believe much loved objects like a pocket knife or watch can hold some of the spirit of their owner. I've been in some really creepy houses that the family told me point blank were haunted and they had trouble keeping overnight help because of it. I think I had an actual heart attack at the one house. I'm sure many don't believe it until it happens to them and think I'm goofy. I have a feeling that it'll let me know exactly what it wants, to be displayed or used. I think it has a lot of karma, so much so I couldn't sleep until I purchased it. I've been googling images of old sling shots to get a grasp of how it might of been set up.
As suggested in this thread by you and others, the wrap on the one fork means it was most likely a tab set up, so I'll probably go with that. Besides that, I like what I've read about the performance of tabs. I'm thinking leather tabs with chained #64 rubber bands and do a fancy paracord wrap on the handle. If I can't shoot it successfully, no wrap to display it in the raw.
This is a great forum, I've been reading about fork attachments, bands and tubes heavily for this ss and the wooden ones I'm also working on.
Thanks to all the contibutors! Some day I hope to be able to contribute as well.

Good on your for helping others find comfort in their last days. My Mom and Sisters have been in that business for years specializing in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Hospice Care. Anyway, there is a special place in the afterlife for people like yourself. Unless of course you shoot out all of your neighbors windows with spite and steel balls. I learned here that tabs of any type (leather, cord, duct tape) create a very forgiving platform to shoot from. Now I think I need to ask questions on why that is.
As far as judging your contributions, nobody will. Unless of course you fall of the table and start spewing vile and aggressive words THEN the moderators will toss you to the wolves. I've seen it happen a few times. Example: Under no circumstances say anything nasty about Canada, you'll get a warning for that. Also, even under this dark cloud we all go easy on China. Primarily because any 4 year old Chinese Girl can shoot better than most of us here. And finally. California appears to be off limits in most conversations. It is better to just refer to anything West of the Rockies as the 'Left Coast'. Cheers, Mo

Thank you for your service of helping the elderly, it's a tough job both physically and emotionally. I'm positive you will have a lot of helpful contributions to the Forum. I don't make my slingshots, and I only shoot tubes mainly because that's what I first learned, and they last longer

Great story. Im glad i read this in the day light before all my antiques start unleashing there hidden spirits. I lived in two haunted houses One was a 1900 farm house the second was a 1920 bungalo. Both houses had history, but were good hauntings or spiritual encounters. I havent noticed anything at my new house 1940s.

You got a solid shooter. If the fork gap is too wide, choke up on the forks. If you plan on shooting this old timer you could wrap up on the forks. This would pad the steal and let you hold higher.

Gypsy tabs are great. I would look at what they did back in the day, and do a period correct band attachment if you plan on making it a wall hanger.

Dont listen to Mo if he says it needs a matching over complicated lanyard bead. :screwy:

I wouldn't say Im superstitious, but Things happen for a reason is on my list. Do to life's occurrences I'm at the age where. Sad
Things happen.
My mind races, in the middle of a sentence something can be said that triggers a joke, smart allec remark, or " hey do you remember when I never let it bother me, because I never answer myself
Yesterday my wife's #%&#% sister upset her Mom, so she calls us❤ my wife gets her calmed down, and then her and I talk. We go out and mow the yard, and I see my slingshot I tell the wife I need to shoot for a little bit, and she tells me she is going in and relax and listen to music. I'm not going to try and figure out what or why, but from the moment I take that first shot, My mind is peaceful and calm My wife also relaxes❤ Now to the superstitious part, I don't think I can ever not shoot my slingshots for fear of losing that feeling of calmness.

NSFC brought up a memory My grandmother had this one room upstairs that was never unlocked. Well one day my older cousin and his brother found the key, and they went in. No way was I going in there, it was Spooky. Well they. Found some neat things like a drum made with animal skin and other interesting things. They decided to borrow a couple things so the deal was one cousin would throw it out the window and the other one would catch it‍♂ I’m standing next to my cousin on the ground when my cousin in the room tosses the drum down. As he was throwing it down, I feel this gigantic hand touch my shoulder my uncle motions me back so that when my cousin on the ground hands it off to supposedly me his Dad takes it. Ok, maybe the room was mysterious.

Just posting an update. It took me many tries to come up with the right wrap and color. Nothing was ever quite right.
I finally knew what I had to do and gutted some 550 paracord. I went with the classic Little Black Dress and knew it was perfect. Miss Victoria is pleased with her new outfit.
Two Neodymium magnets with a center hole is how I attached a simple lanyard. Easy to remove and adjust paracord tabs using a continuous loop and modified Prusik knot. The forks are wrapped with black theraband so the tabs stay where I put them. Her handle is hollow and can hold a stash of ammo.
Thanks for looking.
