Have you seen this? What do you all think of that "Big game natural". How heavy are those tubes and how heavy is the projectile he shoots dear with? I will reserve comment for now.

This one is just a funny clip:

Well maybe if you used it to beat the dear to death..
I don't know what the guy in the first videos area of expertese is but it doesn't seem to include slingshots..

Shooting at a deer with these poor slingshots is animal torturing and I don't like that at all.
Ya, I just don't get it!

If you shot a .5" lead ball or larger at less than 10 yards with a 50lb+ pull with a braced slingshot to the back of the head; you might get lucky enough to daze it enough to go in and finish it off. It just doesn't seem very likely. Just think about it. You have fur hide and a small amount of fat and muscle to slow down the projectile before it has to punch a hole in the skull.

It sound gruesome, but I know of a butcher that I can get whole pigs head from. Maybe if it were small enough it would be a good test. I will have to setup some very strong bands and get a few different sized led balls for the test. I would have to be careful not to present the results in a distasteful way also.

The Man vs. Wild clip was just embarrassing and idiotic for sure. The first clip from shilotv.com the host says his friend "Madison Parker" has taken deer with a relatively simple slingshot. That fact is true!!! Madison Parker makes and sells simple looking (but strong) natural hickory fork slingshots with tube elastic set up to shoot and I think this is the key "Butterfly or Semi-Butterfly Style" with lead ammo.

He is a Retired Navy Seal and Survival Expert who owns Bulletproof Primitive Supply.

Now first I want to be clear that I'm not advocating this in any way.... the words "DON'T TRY THIS" come to mind.... but it is interesting.

He is pictured here in the middle.

Madison harvested this 165# doe with slingshot and hand cast .45 lead slug. Madison did this in front of a platoon of Navy Seals as part of a training exercise. http://www.primitivesupply.com/about.htm

OK, that's were I seen him before. He has classes much like Dave Canterbury. I hope to be in his shape when I'm that old....Heck, I wish I was in that shape NOW!

So a .45 led ball using butterfly style with what, a 30lb-50lb pull? That looks like one our tiny Black Tail Mule deer! I know it's a White Tail, but man is it small.

Ya, Bear didn't look so good with his slingshot! If he could get the pray to hold the forks and then he could pull it back...

good for him and better for the dear at least it didn't suffer much, still clearly not something that every one should try and that should have been made clear. It falls in the realm of selling slingshots as self defence weapons nothing good will come of it.

Agreed Harper!!!!!
I only put up the info. because point of fact I knew about it....maybe I should have left well enough alone.

The first guy didn't seem to know any more about slingshots than the average bloke on the street, yet presented himself as an expert. Just about all his technique is wrong. At least he was better than Bear (probably the world's worst culprit of producing suicidally dangerous survival advice) who missed a 9" target three for three at three paces.

Perry, your info was very welcome at least it showed that he wasn't making it all up as he went.

I'm with Joerg on this one, I think that kind of behaviour would only be acceptable in a true survival situation...

I think a lead ball of that size, shot at a small dear (providing it had the force behind it) would be enough to crack open a skull, weather it would be enough to penetrate I don't know, but a well placed shot only needs three pounds of pressure to knock-out, maybe five-seven to kill. I have a personal dis-taste for Bear, I study bushcraft and survival and I think his shows are not for either, though he is obviously ex-military and has some skill; I think Ray Mears said it best "Bear Grylls is a showman and I'd hope my audience can see the difference between our shows." You know his cameraman (Bear Grylls') once showed everyone a receipt for a hotel, during the time when he was supposed to be staying out in a camel skin, and the same man also said they would shoot a mile or so away from town; I just think his shows are badly put together, with conflicting and almost useless information a lot of the time. He seems like a nice enough man though.
