I have been shooting at 35 yards distance which is much longer than I'm used to. I'm surprised at how much energy heavy projectiles retain at this distance. For instance a 650 grain lead ball easily penetrates 1/2 inch thick plywood. I am getting signficant "drop" at this distance so have to aim above the target. The projectiles are travelling quite slowly, yet they pack a punch when they hit!

I am using black thera tubing and a big starship. If I used multiple thin flat bands I'd expect to get more speed, less drop and more penetration.

Oh dude those are big balls;)
I have bigger balls that that
Lead balls that is, 1250 grains. However they need stronger rubber than the black Thera tube for shooting at 35 yards. The power is there but the drop is too much.

I mostly use 5/16 inch stainless steel balls. They're not very heavy and lack penetrating power. But, they don't drop until I start shooting at objects 80+ yards away. When I'm going for penetration, I use 3/8 or 1/2 inch lead balls. -Matt
