Hello,

My name is Mike and I just took up shooting a slingshot. Picked up a Simpleshot Scout. So far I can hit a 5" target from 30ft pretty consistently but a lot of work to go to be a good shot.

I live in South Central Minnesota an hour west of Minneapolis. Have a cabin near Little Falls too. Would love to meet some other slingshot enthusiasts.

I have a noob question. I shoot 1/4 steel because that's what came with it. I have some 3/8 Ammon coming. Shooting stock bands that came with it. I believe they're just the flat amber latex ones. I feel like 1/4 steel is probably too light. I draw 29" I shoot TTF.

The problem I have is I aim down the band using the side of the fork and band to line the shot up. I place the edge on the target so that looking down the band the top half of the target is visible the bottom half is covered by the slingshot. When I do that it always shoots low by about 3-4". Left to right is dead on but always low.

So I figure I just aim higher placing the edge of the frame about 3" above center of what I want to hit. That works for the most part but the problem is then unless it's a large target , the target gets covered by the frame edge i'm aiming with so I can't actually see the target. For instance, I shot at an old fishing bobber that was about 3" in size. I some at the very top of the bobber head but when I do that I can't actually see any of the bobber because the frame I'm aiming over blocks it out

Maybe that's how you're supposed to do it but in other shooting sports I generally like to see the target as I shoot. Any tips or is this just normal shooting TTF?

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you might tru shortening the bands a bit or lowering your anchor. Your gonna have a lot of fun figuring all this out. It literally took me years to settle on one thing. Kinda. LoL
The main thing is to always keep it fun! Enjoy your Scout. Great choice!

Welcome to the forum! As Joe suggested try lowering your anchor to raise the point of impact.

as said lower your anchor point. For example if your index finger is at the corner of your mouth, try the side of your thumb at the same spot. Watch your release, almost everybody has trouble with their release when starting out. U-tube is full of tips on getting a good release.

Welcome! The wider the forks, the lower the anchor point on the face, and vice-versa: you need to experiment to find the optimum for your specific slingshot.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I will give them a try next time I shoot. I have been anchoring index finger to just in front my ear just above the lobe, I will try going below the lobe and go from there.

Welcome from Georgia

I don't ( and haven't) done near as much shooting as I'd like to, but was gonna suggest the same as the others have suggested, to lower your anchor point slightly to raise your point of impact.

Now, you don't need much. Think of a triangle 29" in length hinged directly at another tringle 30ft in lenght. >< A 1/4 inch on the short end is going to be around 3" on the long end.

Geeze I made that sound way to complicated. Take our word for it, It don't take much.

Yeah, get what you're saying. That's why I figured I would just go from above my earlobe to below and see how that works. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! It worked very well.

I moved my anchor down and I was hitting a can from 30-35 ft almost every time. Ended up cutting the can in half in about 20 shots.

Good shooting! I really like guys who can take advise without making a bunch of excuses for the way they are doing it now. Glad to hear that all these guys were able to help you. Hang in there and keep on keeping on!

PS: Those SS scouts have taught more guys to shoot than any other that I can think of. Maybe one of Bill's forks over at PP. I really like his taurus also.

Yeah, I'm a noob and smart enough to know that people on a forum dedicated to shooting slight shots probably know more than me and I don't like excuses for poor technique. These tips had an immediate impact on my accuracy, no doubt.

Long way to go to be good but I feel like being able to hit a can 9 of 10 times from 30 feet is a good starting point. I probably have an advantage over some noobs in that I come from shooting traditional recurve bows without sites. I feel the techniques for both weapon types have some things in common.

I'm really enjoying slingshots. Far more technical people think. Also the level of accuracy that's achievable is impressive. Also the "thwack" of a steel ball hitting a target is like music to my ears. Watching the hunting videos also shows how powerful they can be too. I'm definitely hooked! Great fun, great to have for prepping purposes as well.
