Hello From Texas!

Hey, everyone -

My name is Gene Ballou, and I live in Central Texas with my lovely wife and two sons. We own/operate a Home-based Child Daycare - it's not great money, but it's a wonderful way to make a living! I also play in a locally popular Christian Rock band called 10th Leper (www.10thleper.com) and we're very active in our local church.

I've only recently gotten interested in slingshots, realizing that I needed an alternative to firearms that could balance power with economics. But since I started doing research, it's become somewhat of an obsession! Just ask my wife.....

I have three wood forks cut and drying, and I've tried some creative (and probably silly) alternative bands to keep from having to buy materials. I'm here to LEARN, and any advice or information anyone has to offer will be greatly appreciated. My goal is to get or make some shooters that will work for survival and self defense.

So that's enough about me... Hope to meet some of you soon!

Gene Ballou.

I'm in Mexia, about 45 miles East of Waco. I know I've heard of Kerrville, but can't remember for anything where it's located!
Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome! I am looking forward to many conversations and new friends.
I have been to "myhair" many times!
Kerrville is on I10, 60 miles west of San Antonio. Is the pawn shop still thriving in Mexia? It think it was one of the most interesting pawn shops that I was ever in. I sold insurance in that area and later I sold pocket knives in that area. I have not been there for maybe 10 years now. -- Tex-Shooter

If you mean CJ's Pawn, yes it is, but it's not exactly operating as a pawn shop. They tell me they haven't taken a pawn in quite awhile, instead just trying to sell their existing inventory. They do have some pretty neat stuff in there, though. But like I said, apparently business isn't that great. Our business is somewhat of a fixture in Mexia too, although I'm not sure you would have encountered a Child Daycare in your travels! But if you ever came around The Beary Patch any time after 2002, you almost certainly spoke with me or my wife, and if you came any time after 1996, you still may very well have spoken with my wife! The Beary Patch has been in operation in this location since 1992, and my wife and I took it over in 2002.

Hey, are you still selling knives? I'm always looking for a quality unique blade to add to my collection...
