I love trout, nice pics
The river bed is variable like maist rivers maistly gravel, sand & rock wi' streams, pools & flats. It is also a very fast flowing river with current on flats due tae volume (..from loch + large mountainous catchment area.) Trout are predominantly yellow bellied, phone camera & poor light conditions micht have them looking darker in these pics, although A've seen very dark backed fish caught from a deep rock pool on the same water.Very interesting! The color and markings are very much like our brown trout. The stream bed must be quite dark as the backs of the fish are darker than ours are normally. Cool thread...thanks.
Bigger flies, bigger fish almost always...

Hi Budwig, We don't take that miny photos when oot fishin' these days.. usually we're too busy fishin & tend tae take the surroundings fur granted. The wild life is good wi' roe deer, hares & birds plentiful around the river & red deer on the hills. here is the best I can dae fur noo..What a great day.
I for one would like to see a picture of the water and countryside.
Thanks Darrell.. it keeps me sane!Beautiful countryside

Thanks! Tied flies for ower 50yrs noo. For dry hackle I use all grades..many small Indian capes & the larger genetics (A've found that the barbs on genetics are much finer & stiffer but ye need miny mair wraps for sighting purposes.) We ten' tae fish wet/dry tae suit the fishin' conditions: surface/subsurface & deeper. We also use a lot o soft hackles in oor wet flies..Grouse, Partridge, Snipe, Starling & Woodcock being the maist common. We fish 8's & 10's for salmonYou are a beautiful tier. Those are nice flies. A little smaller than I expected. The dry flies are very nice. Your hackle is a much better grade than I used, but I was a wetfly fisherman for years. I used the softest webbiest feathers I could find tied sparsely. My pheasant tails were 10s and 8s .
Neat water that you have. Looks swift. To old to wade that stuff now even with felt soles.
I'm needing anither reel mysel so if I find it elsewhere I'll let ye ken. I envy you..Out of stock on that purple wire but thanks for sharing.
Nice pics.
I'm fortunate to be tall so my tackle hardly ever gets touched by the cold water when I wade.

The Spey is a fairly fast river & in winter bursts it's banks regularly making it look like a loch in some places in the upper reaches. It has large gravel shifts & pools are continually changing each year (no always for the better)..in sayin this it's a lovely water tae wade & fish even at oor age.
