Perhaps this has been done and I’ve missed it but there’s numerous ways I can think of with various degrees of preparation required.

this is what I am doing at the moment, tying the string around the tab that folds inside the can when you open it. Seems to be the quickest and most secure way I have found so far. What methods are you all using?

I like to bend up old wire coathangers.

Bent up wire, squeezes easy.

Coat hangers, masking tape, twist ties. Whatever is handy.

I thread an attached paracord through the can ring and clamp it taught to the other side of my 205 litre catch barrel.
If a high hit breaks the can free I then use a spread fold back paper clip handle.

If you shoot heavy stuff you can tie a screw into a string and slipping in down inside the can. The screw still breaks but it beats taking a shot then walking to rehang the can.

This happens sometimes. Drives the screw right into the top of the box.

Ok then, seems I’ve been missing a trick with mucking around with bits of string. The wire holders look like a really good idea, I’ll have a hunt around and see if I have some sturdy wire lying around. Cheers everyone, always good to see what everyone else is doing 🙂
