The deck I have been using didnt have the grip tape on it but I would remove it if it did. And following up on what Matt said, I usually stick on a printed template with some repositionable spray adhesive. I just find it convenient to work that way. Oh, and I face the curve towards target, i.e. the concave side is target side but a few guys here do prefer it the other way round so I guess it's really up to you.

Skateboard deck is superb material for a boardcut, it's light, rigid and strong. Enjoy your build! Looking forward to seeing it...
