How Far Away is my Target?

764 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  MOJAVE MO
My guess is 80ft. The old 'No Mooring' sign faded or fell off and what is left is about an 18x8 piece of plywood. I also have a plastic golf ball in a bush at about the same distance away that is further down the trail that I walk my dog upon
. I need to borrow a rangefinder from an annoying neighbor which is why I thought to ask y'all first!

Hey Mo!

Use the spy in the sky!

It will give you distance in feet.

Measure distance between points

  1. On your computer, open Google Maps. ...
  2. Right-click on your starting point.
  3. Choose Measure distance.
  4. Click anywhere on the map to create a path to measure. ...
  5. Optional: Drag a point or path to move it, or click a point to remove it.
  6. At the bottom, you'll see the total distance in miles (mi) and kilometers (km).

I use the satellite view, of course.

Thanks for that info! Just tried it and it seems to be accurate, based on my yard.

I took to Google Earth and tallied up 5 measurements and see that I am looking at about 75ft to the target. I'll likely need to try it against a rangefinder and see up close. Wait. Do I actually NEED a rangefinder now?!

I would guess about 45 yards

Looks nice a nice spot to fish as well?

It seems the camera adds a few pounds! The satellite says 25ft.
