I tell ya what...
I'm just cruising youtube, and this vid pops up called Rust and Jute. Pow...blow my mind. This man shreds a small bit of twine, and scrapes a rusty axe to gather the powder and sprinkles the powder on the jute and starts to hand roll it like he's making a cigar. Then he places this little thing about the thickness of a smoke onto 2 2x4 and rubbes back and fourth with conviction...BLAM...it lights!
Anybody done this?

You can do a similar thing with cotton and soot. Pull a cotton ball apart, sprinkle with ash, and roll into a similar shape. Really easy to ignite by rolling back and forth between two boards. Scary easy.

I think anything that creates a bit of friction would do it. Pretty amazing how easy it can be when things are right.

It is amazing how easy it is to start a fire and how many ways there are to do it. Unless I am out in the cold and wet. Then all bets are off. 😂

I dunno bud... I've watch these folks on TV, and so on take a strip of FATWOOD, that is completely soaked, and have been able to start an amber.
I myself like an idiot that I am went out for a small walk in the woods, hatchet in hand along with 2 other knives....just for protection mind you.
I couldn't find a damn thing! Funny thing here...growing up in new jersey as a kid I was always in the woods, and I know I have come across this stuff.
Now this part of NC, is all scraped to hell every 30 years from the logging folks. Plenty of dead wood, but thats about it.
