Identified as a Morella, or Bayberry shrub.

most of the bark has been stripped off, it's on my enclosed patio to dry. I have a moisture meter, currently at 22% moisture. need to get below 15%

Looking good.....you could always use the microwave speed drying method, it works, just have to be careful, watch it and only do short bursts on high.

Found a second "frame", this on is oak. It's already dryer, than the first one. Bark is NOT as easy to remove on the oak. Right side is the newer oak unit.

Spent some time at my office this am. I believe the new frame is ELM, but it's dry, hard, and strong.

Oak bark that is hard to peel usually found on Winter kill wood. There is no sap flowing and everything is tighter and drier even before you cut it from the tree.

Sam, are you using just sandpaper to remove the bulk of material ?

If so, and you can afford it, look into getting a Japanese Shinto rasp off of Amazon.

They are made from hacksaw blades welded together ( I think with the teeth In opposing directions ) so they cut on the push and pull stroke, and are absolute wood eaters.

They have two models that I'm aware of, s regular type like a rasp, and also a flat surface, hand planer style....I have both and highly recommended them

Looking good Sammy. Some natural forks look good with a little bit of bark left on too. Don't worry too much about a perfect clean up, it will add character.

Get some bands on that thing and shoot it!

I use a four in one rasp. Even it is much better than sand paper for removing material quickly.

My Japanese Shinto rasp is going NO WHERE! It made quick work of the size, and double sided. Awesome tool.

+Final shape, what is best for cutting the ends to finished length? I have various hand saws, Dremel, Jig, skill, and a table saw.

Any hand saw, jig saw is great...but table saw isn't worth the risk as close as your fingers would be to the blade.....chop or miter saw works great

Just about anything. Now comes diving off into sandpaper.

Cut down to final size. Used a cut off to test drill, I may use a new 1/4 spade bit and turn it by hand.
