Sam, are you using just sandpaper to remove the bulk of material ?

If so, and you can afford it, look into getting a Japanese Shinto rasp off of Amazon.

They are made from hacksaw blades welded together ( I think with the teeth In opposing directions ) so they cut on the push and pull stroke, and are absolute wood eaters.

They have two models that I'm aware of, s regular type like a rasp, and also a flat surface, hand planer style....I have both and highly recommended them

Thank You, I ordered a rasp, but the teeth on cut on the push, 4 tools on 1 bar. I ordered the Shinto
. You won't be disappointed in the Shinto, I promise.....if you don't like it, I'll gladly trade you a custom natty for it .
