Take a look at the little flag next to my name. Does it look like a Mexican flag to you? Yea, will it is. The invasion of privacy in this new Forum and the Interwebs is beyond reasonable. Indeed I am on a vacation but I never notified anyone that owns the Forum that I’d be out of the USA. This isn’t a mystery. The new Forum owners are using me and you to create their wealth.
If we were all in a big room in a Face2Face world to have a conversation about slingshots we would all have to pay a tax to enter the building, and then another tax to speak to one person, and another tax to speak to many. Don’t forget there will be a tax to eat a donut and under each donut will be an advertisement for donut cream, donut juice, and a new vehicle to carry donuts.

@MOJAVE MO - Sadly, you are absolutely correct. Web forums like this one sell ad space based on the amount of forum traffic. The owner of this forum tracks posts, views, ads that you follow and where you go after you leave the forum. This is the price of admission to chat w/ fellow slingshot enthusiasts. Some folks here pay a registration fee and/or a vendor fee on top.

It seems as though activity is way down on the forum. This could be me, or perhaps it is Summer and folks are shooting more and posting less, or a function of folks not liking the new forum.

Reminds me a lot of another famous social networking site that I’ll have nothing to do with. Bastards snuck it all in under our noses years before the public even knew it was important. Now it’s indoctrinated and big money backed so it’s almost impossible to stop. The saddest part is most people would look at you funny if you said that you thought it was unethical.

That is interesting. They have the power. You can’t quit, but you can be banished! My brain is now mushed and cannot function without the interwebs in my mind. I am going to go obtain a quality beer refreshment…..in about 8 minutes after the algorithm’s send me an advertisement to let me know what kind of a beer I want. Oh! Chips and Salsa! I want some of those too! #humansareoutdated

Not to beat a dead horse, but how is it that they can update locations in real time but are not capable of getting the badges back up?

This whole 'new format' reminds me of the Obamacare rollout debacle. We had a funky interactive forum and now we have a glossy magazine makeover, minus some very popular features. Gotta wonder if the forum is for the members, or for the owners and the guy that calls himself an insect with his team of IT 'developers'. I doubt if any of them are into slinging and likely consider us a bunch of childish goobers.

My radar is especially sensitive to condescension and lately it's pinging often. Give us the forum we want and use to have, instead of excuses, and stop treating us like funding units. But that ain't gonna happen ... this is the new normal, suckatatious as it is, until someone launches an outlaw forum. You up for a new career Mo?

Indeed. I believe you have a real idea there. Of course if I believed that our New Masters even bothered to read the Forum we would both be banned for siting a mutiny before midnight tonight.

Badges cannot be monetized and are too much of an effort for the ‘IT Department’ to do something that appeals to our tiny little non-money making egos. By listing how many posts we create, that can be translated into a ‘vibrant forum’ which sells more Ad space than some stinking badges! I honestly believe now more than ever we can outsmart these clowns and create a Forum that is as simple and brilliant as a slingshot.

In the meantime you guys might want to check out the Duck Duck Go browser on mobile. No ads. Not sure how it works on desktop but I’d be curious. I haven’t seen an ad since this whole new format launched and I just have a basic membership. I’m aware it’s not just the ads that are the issue though.
