Y'all cannot imagine how proud I am for this collaboration with Mother Nature. I managed to find my Atlas (Atlas Slingshots of Sweden) and stop from sanding away all of this natural beauty in this Red Oak.
I just gave it a surface rubdown with 150grit to open up the wood, take down some worm tracks and prepare it for an overnight in a bag of BLO. The right fork had a perfect 1/8" worm hole down the center of the fork. I cleaned up the hole and epoxied a brass rod about 1.5" into the hole. It kind gives it a cool 'old timey fixit' look.
After the BLO bath I let it dry for about 4 days and then buffed it with newspaper. Newspaper is just rough enough to even the surface it and give it a bit of a burnish. I then went with a coat of paste wax followed by the wheel and then more newspaper. I think this might be my favorite 'build' yet! Thanks for looking! Mo
