Hey guys and gals

Some days ago I finished my first homemade slingshot. I wanted one of those small frames since I've seen them so I build one myself.

I orientated the Design on a rough template I've seen on Pinterest. After cutting this from Multiplex I sawed in Topslots and filed it a bit for a comfy grip (wich was a mistake, as you will see ). After shooting it a bit I decided, that it needs a Palmswell, because I saw one beautiful palmswell on a Metall slingshot some days ago and loved it.

I've cut myself a branch of a blood plum and dried in in the oven. Than I've sawed some small planks from it. Here a made the second mistake. Because I was a little lazy and impatient I didn't made the planks completely flat before I glued them. Also the wood glue my parents had at there workshop where I started the project turned out dark after it dried (but I kinda like the look now)

I filed it in form and sanded it up to with 240 grit. Than some linseed oil as a finish.
I had to fill up the spaces between the wood and the multiplex with wood glue and sawdust wich is a little imperfection but adds "character"

It shoots quit good and feels great in the hand. I like how the black glue filled the cracks of the wood. A lanyard still has to be added. :)
Hope you like my "ugly ducking" wich really turned out to be a swan with character

It looks fine to me. Kein Problem, du bist auf dem richtigen Weg!

The great thing about making mistakes, is that we (hopefully) learn by them, and thus avoid making them again.

Ultimately, what really counts are symmetrical forks with identical heights and good holding ergonomics to be able to shoot accurately. There are numerous slingshots out there that look stunning at first sight, but where you quickly realize that they're better for shelf decoration than for shooting. <_<

You are both right! It shoots nice and is comfy. I might file it a little bit more after some long sessions where I really feel pressurepoints of long usage but right now it’s fine and I think about shooting it on my first tourney a might attend later this year :) Thank you guys!

I wasn't sure NSFC but it was probably your slingshot wich inspired me for the Palmswell.
And oh boy, I just found out it's Duckling not ducking xD I described it as ugly duckling because of the tale from Hans Christian Andersen. Like in the tale at the beginning I really didn't like what I've build, because of quite some flaws it had (all my mistake learned from that). But after I put some more work and time into it, it really came out quit nice and at the moment I'm have the most fun shooting it. But you're a right. It might deserve a better name maybe "Svane" as its danish for Swan and Hans Christian Andersen was danish

That is an awesome take you did on that design, that palm swell looks dope, and super comfortable. That would be a great one to slip in the back pocket for a hike
Thank you! Yeah, when I have the money to order more steel balls so I can shoot some shots without a catch box I will probably take it with me everywhere!
