Hello all, and thanks for sharing this wonderful resource with us lithuanians!

I used to spend a lot of time in the forests, building bows, knives and similar things. As I grew older, however, it kind of became clear walking around the parks with a bow and full quiver of arrows is not something really accepted in these parts .. :) So, slowly, I forgot it all.

Recently, however, I stumbled upon this forum and imediatelly knew what I have to do.. Once again can I walk around the forest, cutting down branches, and there are few things I enjoy more :).

This is my first build, made from a fallen elm branch. At least I'm 50% sure it's elm.. Not that it matters so much anyway.

It is dyed using pomengranate juice + tea + rusty, later applying some nails & vinegar mixture to make it have that grey / slighly purplish tint that I enjoy very much. I then applied spray laquer, which I enjoy a bit less, but, well, it is shiny, and it is quick :)

It has a "healthy" fork height / width at 65mm (~2.5 inch) which I hope will help me, as a newbie, avoid stuff ricocheting into my face despite the large leverage.

I hope you like it, see you all around!

Welcome to the forum. Very impressive work! Thank you for the detailed photos. You can use light bands to avoid the leverage of the tall forks. It looks like you have strong hands, so it will not be a problem. Have you shot it yet?

Thanks for the nice words, everyone :) I'll soon make another one because I might have just cut a bit too many of them branches :) We'll see how the rust + vinegar stain works then - from my understanding the more rust "dissolves" the darker the effect, but who knows.

Tobor8Man, I've shot it today, right after posting the photos. Immediatelly after shooting I can tell some things could have been better:

  • the wide top handle shape might bee to wide for my pistol grip, will try slimmer next time;
  • the forks are too long for my hand strength, the leverage is quite painful for the hand, maybe it'll get stronger with time. I'll try your suggestion about lighter bands, if not - will switch the leather loops to be more through-the-fork ;
  • I attached my rubber band way too tightly to the leather loops - it doesn't move freely, so after shooting it sticks to the top, and you have to put it back manually. Could fix it, but will just wait for proper tubes.

I ordered some nice, lighter pull-weight latex tubes. At the moment, was using a super ugly no-name tube cut up into half :)

All in all, it's still a blast to shoot, and shoots very well. I even hit the target once :) Switched to aluminum foil balls for now to train indoors a bit.

I don't think you should change anything - except maybe your hand position. I haven't used the grip on a slingshot as a pistol grip for years. I always hike up my hand to just below the bands. Shorter lever-arm.

I really like it.
Winnie said it right - just move your hand closer to the fork ends.

Great job! I really like this one! Like they're saying, choke up on the grip. If you decide to lower the forks, I cut mine to 2.5" to 2.75". That's probably a bit shorter than you've cut them. It will take stress off the hand and still keep you from getting a fork hit.

Frisky, I can tell from your profile picture you like your slingshots pretty SOLID :) So, actually, my forks are at 2.5" - yours then might get even longer. It's all in the technique and hand strength then I guess.

I'll try holding it as Winnie and Tobor8Man suggested, just below the bands today. Next one I'll make a bit smaller / slimmer too so it's easier to hold as you suggest, it will also then fit into pocket I think.
