Hello folks,

here, I want to show you my first slingshot I made after a break of 20 years or so. I was inspired by Jörg's and Tobias' brilliant „Hammerhead"-design. I used four layers of 1,2 mm Multiplex-wood, which I laminated together with epoxy-glue. For shaping, I used a rasp, a Dremel and sandpaper. I attached two layers of Theraband-Gold and I am quite pleased, how this shooter fits my hand and performs. One thing I am not very happy with is the finish. I used some colored glaze for exterior applications. It looks OK, but the typical haptic of the wood is lost and even after a very long period of drying, the smell of the paint is still quite prominent. Future forks, I will treat just with line oil.

Super effort. Looks great. A bunch of us like the results of 50/50 boiled linseed/mineral turpentine for natural timbers. You can also buff it up after curing with liquid bees wax for a higher sheen. Really brings out the grain. It may yellow some lighter wood though and you can add a little stain to the mix to if you like.
Cheers

great to see peoples first slingshots. Although if I showed you what my first made slingshot looked like you probably wouldn't be able to tell it was a slingshot and just think it was fire wood. Anyway back on track, That is awesome!

Thank you guys for the really nice feedback, that really motivates me to keep on building and shooting! I attached a photo how it looks with bands. I used Theraband Gold, length 21 cm from fork to pouch, tapered (2,5 to 1,5 cm) for 12 mm steel balls.

I did my first shooting-practice this weekend and am very happy how it performs, as far I can judge this as a beginner. But I think either a higher caliber or weaker bands will also work. Anyway, thanks again for commenting.

@Rapier: I will definitively try your linseed oil/turpentine recipe, thx!
