My third fork

529 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Frisky
This is the third fork I've made since getting into slingshots. Not sure what kind of wood it is ( I never do haha). Made it almost entirely with a knife and a lot of sanding. I carved it out of a large natural fork and treated it with linseed oil.

Very nice job of whittling. What kind of ammo are you mainly going to shoot?. I only mention this because with unknown wood, I notice on the right tine, the crotch grain seems to stop and a straight grain appears on the narrow part of the fork. Please test the Bejeepers out of it before you put it up to your face. Probably all right but we'd all feel like poo poo if we saw that and someone didn't mention it. I'm sure it would be alright for light stuff. But testing it will show. Otherwise, I think you did a bang up job!!

Thanks for your concern. I tested it a bunch. What ever the wood is, it's really hard and strong.

Cool. I don't want to be an old maid, but we only have one pair of eyes.

Haha, it's all good. I'm glad people are on here looking out. I'm also wearing my glasses when I shoot so I'm relatively safe if the worst happens
Very nice! I like using boiled linseed oil for a finish. Gives a nice, natural sheen.
