I could not decide whether I liked a high or low grip on this one so I cut finger grooves for both.

I left the forks a bit long so they can be trimmed if needed. I have no idea of what this wood is but it has some distinctive grain.

Sometimes mystery wood is good.

That sure is spectacular where you cut the grooves.

And sometimes it's good to leave some extra wood. I reworked an oak fork this year that I originally carved three years ago but never liked to shoot. It's one of my favorites now!

I should have paid more attention to the tree when I got it. It was along a creek at a place they were bulldozing for development. Here in central texas the fauna lining the creeks are completely different than what is generally distributed. If it can take the summer heat almost anything will grow there. This is one of the creeks that has a constant flow since it is spring fed.
