hey guys, i bought a cheap lil wooden slingshot at a rest stop on the way to vacation just for fun, and i played with it more and more and i fell in love with the toy...but it broke, and now i want a real one. i want a good quality slingshot that can easily fit in my pocket and/or shorts, i want one that is powerful (this is key) and i want one that is deadly acurate. it has to be able to shoot a variety of ammo, anything from steel balls, to paint balls, to rocks off the sidewalk. i have heard a few brands such as marksman, daisy, falcon, and a few more, but i dont know which to buy..i dont know how expensive these things get, but i dnt want to give an arm and a leg for one..i want one similar to the hunting ones (as far as power and accuracy is concerned) just a little more portable, as stated before..so if you guys can help me find what im lookin for i would appreciate it, thanks! -Pete

thank you for the welcome, few quick questions tho...are the wooden slingshots better than other materials? like steel and such? or does that even matter? also, is it easy to replace bands? and are there any laws against slingshots in public? i sincerely appreciate answers to all of the questions, as i am new to the weapon completely haha

I would recommend a wooden or Dankung slingshot those kind, that forum members sells here. They are nice, shorter then those big brand commercial slingshots

Daisy .....) Fits better in pocket and are much nicer and surely you will fall in love with slingshooting more.I would suggest you get one with wider fork for starting as there is less chance to get a fork hit.

If you live in the USA, for a entry level slingshot I recommend a Saunders Hawk. There are several reasons. One, its pistol grip keeps your hand away from the shooting plane. Two, it has cam action quick change band system. Three the forks are wide enough to sight shoot with. Four, the ramp style tips are easy on band wear. Five, it is supported by a American company that supplies replacement parts (for a fee of course). Six, you can get after market products like a piper sight, my custom grip and easy pull band sets. Seven, it has a cost of about $15. The second entry level choice would be Trumark S9. It also has a pistol grip that keeps your hand away from the shooting plane. You can readily get bands for it and my after market grip. It sells for about $10. Then when you get more experienced, you might want to spend a little more money and get a custom wood slingshot from the makers listed in posts above. -- Tex

the hawk is a good choice, with tex bands and grip it is a great and fast strong catty and the price is very good! the s9 is only a choice if this 5 $ less it werth nasty bandslaps and expensive and weak bands which are to heavy to pull also a weak frame and a bad ergonomy.

Saunders and trumark both make decent quality slingshots. The custom wooden ones are awesome, but will cost more.

Don't forget Flatband, he sells a darn fine sling shot....any of the other vendors here sell equally good products, DON"T FORGET TO CHECK YOUR LOCAL LAWS, in some areas wrist support slingshots are a no no...
Or you could very easily make one yourself being purchased from someone does not make it a real slingshot...find yourself a good fork strip it, dry it, put some bans on and you have yourself a real slingshot.

My best advice is to take your time and do some research on this forum to get acquainted with slingshots. Also learn a bit about the different kinds of rubber you can use on your slingshot, because this is where the power comes from. If you want pure raw power, then Theraband Gold is the ticket, but power comes with a price. You won't be as accurate usually because it will be harder to hold at full draw and it will take a toll physically as well. May God have mercy on your hand if you ever hit it with full power Theraband Gold! Gum rubber is smooth to shoot and fast enough for me, I like it, especially to target shoot with.
Only you can decide which fork to get. I recommend you take a look at some custom slingshots too. Gary "Flatband" Miller has put some real research into his slingshots. Pallan, with A+ Slingshots has very nice slingshots. Bunny Buster makes some fine slingshots worthy of investigation. Fish, from across the ocean, makes a small, pocket sized array of slingshots designed mostly for hunting that you might like.
For a factory slingshot, I like the Saunders Hawk rigged with Tex-Shooters' band set. Buy it from Tex, because He can also set you up with extra bands and other stuff you might want, like the custom grip for it.

How accurate? How good of a shot are you?
How powerful? How powerful do you need it to be? it wont do for elepahant but with Tex's express band I believe it will take small game.

Power comes from the band set you use, if I'm not mistaken Tex's bands are about as strong as you can go with this fork, Accuracy comes from you, as far as I know there are no major problems with this fork but in the end it's up to you.

If it is from Tex, you can bet your grandmas' quilt that it has been thoroughly designed and tested to be one of the best slingshot products out there. I have a hawk that I got from Tex rigged with his medium power field grade bands. It is smooth, accurate and packs a punch. With bands that he recommends for hunting I'm sure it will put a smile on your face.
